As the film celebrates 23 years of be released, we’re taking a look at where the spicy cast is now.
Twenty-three years on from releasing the teen cult film that sparked fury in females all over, the cast of the hit movie have gone on to lead very varied lives.
The young, hot and talented lineup were all set for stardom but some have had a rougher time than others on their fight for fame.
With alcohol abuse, suicidal siblings and restraining orders all coming in to play for the actors, some of the crew have seriously been through it since the film’s release in 2006.
But let’s take a look at what the iconic cast are up to now…
Penn Badgley
Penn Badgley played the ‘other Tucker’, also known as Scott. After JTMD, he soared to success, landing a lead role as Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl (2007–2012).
Most recently, he has become a worldwide phenomenon for his lead part in Netflix’s You where he played Joe Goldberg for three series and counting.
Penn has also built up a big credit list since 2006, with titles such as The Stepfather, Easy A, Margin Call, Greetings, and The Paper Store added to his roster.
In 2017, he married singer Domino Kirke, with whom he shares one child, a one-year-old son called James. While also looking after his stepson from Domino’s previous relationship.
Prior to this, he had a string of famous hookups having dated Gossip Girl co-star Blake Lively from 2007 to 2010 and actress Zoë Kravitz from 2011 to 2013.
He has recently hit the headlines for his new but odd relationship with rapper Cardi B, where after a string of Twitter exchanges they hilariously changed their profile pics to one another as a tribute to being each other’s superfans.
Sophia Bush
Sophia played Beth and is an American actress, activist, director, and producer and most famously known for starring as Brooke Davis in One Tree Hill (2003–2012).
She has gone on to pursue acting and had a big role in the NBC police drama series Chicago P.D as Erin Lindsay from 2014–2017.
Her film career also continued to take off with credits in The Hitcher, The Narrows, Chalet Girl, Marshall, Acts of Violence and Incredibles 2.
Sophia began dating Dan Fredinburg, a program manager for Google, from January 2013 to February 2014 but broke up due to the strains of their long-distance relationship.
But was significantly impacted by his death in 2015 after he died in an avalanche on the slopes of Mount Everest which was caused by an earthquake in Nepal.
She has since gone on to date businessman Grant Hughes in May 2020 and announced their engagement in August 2021 via Instagram.
Jesse Metcalfe
Jesse played the notorious John Tucker in the movie – who sunk the hearts of the adoring ladies in the film, but they sure did get their revenge.
The actor, 44, is also best known for his portrayal of John Rowland on Desperate Housewives which lasted until 2007.
In the same year that JTMD was released, Jesse started dating Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle, having met on a night out in Australia but broke up in 2008 later due to cheating allegations on Jesse’s side.
During his time with Nadine, Jesse also entered a rehabilitation facility to seek treatment for alcohol abuse after “losing control” of himself.
In November 2008, he hosted the World Music Awards in Monaco and while at the after-party, he fell thirty feet to the ground from a second-story balcony – as a result, he fractured his fibula but luckily avoided more serious injury.
He managed to get himself back on track and since starred in other TV and film titles and has kept a longstanding role as Trace Riley in Hallmark Channel’s hit series Chesapeake Shores from 2016 to 2021.
Lovelife-wise, he moved on and met actress Cara Santana in 2009 and got engaged in August 2016. However, the couple ended their engagement and broke up in January 2020 following Jesse being publicly pictured with a series of other women.
Ashanti
What’s Luv singer Ashanti starred as scorned Heather in the blockbuster and has since appeared to have stepped out of the public eye over the years.
The singer, 43, was a regular in the early noughties charts but her music career went downhill after her record label came into some legal trouble.
The label bosses at Murder Inc. Records were arrested in connection with a major drug sting which led to Ashanti parting ways with them in 2009.
She then didn’t release another album until 2014 – which didn’t go as well as her previous chart successes.
Another reason why Ashanti kept a low profile, was due to the amount of time she spent in court fighting a man convicted of stalking her.
According to TMZ, the man was “found guilty [in March 2016] of felony 2nd degree stalking after sending several X-rated tweets to Ashanti and her sister and even [texting] an X-rated pic of himself to her mom.”
He was sentenced to four years in prison and was not permitted to contact Ashanti or her family for five years.
In April 2020, she returned to the charts and snagged another Hot 100 hit with her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby, on a track titled Nasty.
Arielle Kebbel
Arielle played Carrie – the brains behind the operations, and has since gone on to pursue a career in acting alongside modelling.
The star has appeared in various television series, including The Vampire Diaries, Life Unexpected, 90210, Ballers, Midnight Texas and Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector.
Filme-wise, the 38-year-old has also featured in The Grudge 2, Forever Strong, The Uninvited, Think Like a Man and Fifty Shades Freed.
In February this year, Arielle sent out an alert that her sister had gone missing during a psychotic episode in Los Angeles while walking her chocolate Labrador retriever.
The actress went on to file an official missing person’s report with the LAPD. Two weeks later, Kebbel shared the news that her sister and dog had been found.
Her sister – who suffered from bipolar disorder – had debated ending her own life but her love for her dog changed her mind and she just left and wandered around for nearly 13 days – homeless and helpless.
Brittany Snow
Brittany Snow played heartbreaker Kate – who fooled John Tucker by pretending to be his perfect woman.
The actress then took a big role in Hairspray in 2007, playing Amber Von Tussle, the daughter of Michelle Pfeiffer’s character.
A year later, she played the lead role of Donna Keppel in the slasher film Prom Night and in 2012 she starred in the musical comedy film Pitch Perfect, as singer Chloe.
Pitch Perfect became the highest-grossing music comedy film of all time, overtaking School of Rock who held the previous record and was followed by two sequels.
In 2016, she portrayed Michelle in the comedy film The Late Bloomer and had the lead role of Lucy in the action thriller film Bushwick a year later.
Most recently, she portrayed Blair Helms in Netflix’s romantic comedy film Someone Great.
