EastEnders Graham star’s life – soap return, rival BBC stint and career U-turn

Soap villain Graham Foster is on his way back to Albert Square.

The character – played by Alex McSweeney – has been away from the soap for over two decades, but following a prison sentence for raping Little Mo Slater (played by Kacey Ainsworth), he is on his way back to Walford.

Tense scenes loom as Bobbie Brazier joined EastEnders as his son Freddie Slater last year, born as his mother Little Mo refused to terminate her pregnancy.

Upon returning to the soap, the actor told The Mirror: “I’m grateful to be asked to reprise the role of Graham as I thought it was important for Freddie to be given some answers about his dad.”

He added: “I thoroughly enjoyed working with the talented Bobby Brazier.”

Alex McSweeney first joined the London-based BBC soap in 2003 and he stayed on the square for a two year stint until January 2005.

Before EastEnders, he was best known for his role on the infamous Police drama, The Bill where he appeared as a regular guest actor between 1994 and 2003 before he took on the role as series regular David Radford in 2004.

After leaving EastEnders he appeared in various high-profile projects which included the role of Captain Wilder in the third series of the ITV drama Primeval in 2009.

Before that he also appeared in Lewis in 2007 and other shows which included various roles in Silent Witness and Holby City.

The actor also had a recurring role of D.S. Sykes in Channel 4 ‘s Hollyoaks from 2013 until 2014.

His character was later killed off by gangster Fraser Black, before he joined the long-running BBC series Doctors in 2015.

In 2016, he later appeared in an episode of the hit series Call The Midwife in March of that year where he played the role of Joe Blacker.

However, he doesn’t just focus on the stage and screen as alongside his acting career, he’s also a celebrated university lecturer.

He holds positions at two establishments where he teaches Drama at Kingston University and is a Senior Lecturer in English and Creative Writing at London Southbank University.
