Corrie star who broke girls’ legs in crash doing community service at charity shop

Corrie actor Louis Emerick is doing community service in a charity shop – after injuring two girls through careless driving.

The 65-year-old star has been helping out at a Scope branch for two days a week as part of his sentence for the
motoring offences.

The TV and film actor, best known for playing Mick Johnson in Brookside and Mike Thornberry in Coronation Street, must do 200 hours of unpaid work.

He was also handed an 18-month driving ban.

Remorseful Emerick pleaded with his followers on social media to support the shop. He posed for a picture with his volunteer lanyard on while holding up a book for sale, tweeting: “I may have a story to tell about this… very soon.”

Last week he took to social media and told followers: “I do a couple days per week at Scope, it’s opened my eyes to what a fab job they + other charity shops do! Fab staff, Mathew, Andreà, Gayle, showing me the ropes. Drop in say hi + spend money, of course. Gr8 bargains to be had.”

After his sentencing at Wirral Magistrates Court, Emerick said he did not know how he could have lived with himself if either of the girls had died.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the actor “was not speeding but admitted he couldn’t see clearly because of the sun so should have slowed down”.

One girl suffered a broken leg while the other sustained fractures to her left leg, right ankle, jaw and nose, the court heard.

He appeared as Mike in Coronation Street

Louis hit the girls with his car back in October 2022 and was handed a 26-week suspended sentence.

His most recent acting credit came in BBC One sitcom The Cleaner, created by comedian Greg Davies, where he played Vince.
