The Chase’s Mark Labbett addresses show future as he confirms ‘less’ episodes for 2024

The Chase legend Mark Labbett has revealed that less episodes of the hit ITV quiz show will be filmed next year.

The TV star, 57, has appeared as The Beast on the popular daytime programme since the show first aired in 2009.

Over the years, he has gone to to appear on the Australian and American version of The Chase.

Speaking to Daily Star at the glitzy bash, Mark explained: “We film three shows a day, normally four days a week.

“We do 200 and odd shows a year but it’s dropped to 160 next year.

“We filmed so much during the latter part of lockdown they’ve got loads so we’re getting to the point there’s too many.”

There are currently six Chasers who take it in turns and take on members of the public in a series of general knowledge questions.

Like Mark, Shaun Wallace has appeared on The Chase since series one and co-star Anne Hegerty joined the show for series two.

Paul Sinha was recruited for series four followed by Jenny Ryan, who made her debut in series nine.

Darrag Ennish appeared as a contestant on The Chase before he became a Chaser in series 13.

Mark went on to claim that rival BBC quiz show Pointless once had to stop production because they filmed so many episodes in advance.

The six Chasers rotate and each have an episode each

“They had to shut down for a year once because they had so much in the can,” he said.

“Alexander [Armstrong] and Richard [Osman] can do their own thing but it meant some of the crew were like ‘hang on we’ve got to work’

“We’re lucky we’ve got extra curricular gigs in England but in Australia they’ve got next to nothing so I’m glad I don’t have to rely on the Australian money.”

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 5pm
