A Place in the Sun’s Jonnie Irwin supported by fans as he suffers nasty injury after fall

A Place in the Sun star Jonnie Irwin has been inundated with advice and support from fans after suffering a nasty injury at his home.

The 49-year old presenter took to his Instagram account on Monday (August 7) detailing an accident that left him with an ice pack on his foot.

Father-of-three Jonnie revealed in November last year that he could have just months to live after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer two years earlier, which had spread to his brain.

A foot injury is perhaps trivial to someone as brave as Jonnie, but it didn’t stop scores of his 187,000 loyal followers on the platform rushing to wish him well.

Accompanying a snap of his raised foot, which appeared to be swollen and red, the star wrote: “When you forget the builder has removed your door step…”

It led to one concerned fan commenting: “Oh no! Hope your OK. Plenty of R.I.C.E. Rest, ice, compression & elevation. Take it easy.”

Another replied: “Keep foot elevated Jonnie. Big hugs and kisses. Xxx.”

A third said: “Lots of ice Jonnie…. You don’t need this that’s for sure !!!”

And a fourth offered in support: “Ouch…sending you healing wishes jonnie xx.”

Jonnie’s accident comes two weeks after he delivered an update on his condition to Morning Live from his end of life hospice.

Asked by the show’s co-host Gethin Jones how he was getting on, the housing expert said: “I’m really good thanks, I have up days and down days but today’s very much an up day and the family are great and very noisy.”

The TV personality went on to outline how his views had changed surrounding palliative care after he first tried it out during lockdown.

He added: “Palliative care is the care that you’re given when the doctors think that you won’t recover, so I’ve been in palliative care since day one.

“My hospice is a delight actually. I wouldn’t say it’s like a hotel but it’s like a very, very nice private hospital.

“My perception of a hospice was a boiling hot room full of people who look frail and look towards the end of their days.

“This is nothing of the sort, it’s spacious, energised, comfortable – it’s even got a jacuzzi bath and en-suite rooms. The staff are just amazing, so I’ve had a really, really good experience with my hospice.”
