Comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli has been arrested and charged in connection with “non-recent” sexual offences, police have confirmed.
Since his arrest, the 54-year-old, who has presented a number of programmes for the BBC and other broadcasters, has been released and is due to appear in court at a later date.
The new developments come after Police Scotland confirmed it was investigating new allegations that had been published by The Times newspaper concerning Kohil.

Sharing further insight on the matter, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 54-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with allegations of non-recent sexual offences.

“He has been released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.
“A report of the circumstances has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Kohil was a runner-up in the 2006 edition of Celebrity MasterChef.
Years later he became a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother in 2018.
Before finding fame, Kohli joined the BBC Scotland graduate production trainee scheme after he graduated from university.

Not long after, he later worked in BBC Television Centre, London, directing children’s TV shows, before he moved on to Youth and Entertainment Features in Manchester to become a series director on Janet Street-Porter’s series Reportage.
He later became a director of It’ll Never Work, which went on to become the first children’s TV show to win an award from the Royal Television Society and BAFTA in its first season.
Despite his major success, Kohli left the corporation in 1996 to work independently.
He later directed a number of commercials and worked in TV development and broadcast occasionally on BBC Radio 5 Live.

In 2004, Kohil wrote, directed and starred in Channel 4’s Meet the Magoons.
However, the show received a critical response that was lukewarm as it failed to find an audience.
At the time, journalist Thomas Sutcliffe said the first episode “went beyond desperate and started to sound as if the comedy was actually pleading for its life.”
Years later Kohli was a reporter for BBC’s The One Show, but according to reports, he was later suspended in 2009 for six months amidst allegations of “inappropriate behaviour” towards a researcher.
His contract was never renewed after the allegation came to light.
