BBC Breakfast host missing in show shake-up as star makes cheeky dig at Carol Kirkwood

BBC Breakfast star Charlie Stayt was missing from the latest episode of the morning show.

The 61-year-old presenter usually hosts the programme alongside Naga Munchetty Thursday to Saturday.

However, Naga was joined by Roger Johnson on the famous red sofa on Thursday (August 10).

They woke up the nation with the latest headlines including the news that a special 50 pence coin marking the Coronation of King Charles will go into circulation this week.

Following the segment, Roger pointed out: “Perhaps the King doesn’t carry cash like his mum.”

“Like the Queen,” Naga added.

Roger continued: “And Like Carol, who revealed that like the late Her Majesty The Queen, you also never carry cash.”

Weather presenter Carol Kirkwood responded: “No, never. I used to but now, since the pandemic, I just don’t. It’s easier with a card.”

“Queen of the weather see,” Roger said.

Naga joked: “Do you know why she doesn’t really carry cash?”

“So she doesn’t have to buy you a coffee,” Roger teased.

Naga revealed: “Yeah so she doesn’t have to pick it up” before she mimicked: ‘I’ve got no money, i’ve got no cash’.”

However, Carol shut down the claims and playfully hit back” “Ah Naga you are terrible especially as yesterday I did buy you a coffee but I did that with a card.”

It comes after Carol was left red-faced during Tuesday’s (August 8) show after host Jon Kay noticed a hilarious blunder during her live weather report.

As the meteorologist gushed about a picturesque snap sent in by one of their viewers, Jon was quick to point out an element she’d failed to notice.

He noted: “Right, it’s just after ten to eight and you know Carol gets beautiful pictures from all over the UK from you everyday that just encapsulate the weather.

“Well, this morning she’s got a cracker, I think that’s how you say it.”

A giggling Carol turned to the image on her screen and said: “It is. It’s beautiful. I am looking at the sky of course Jon. I don’t know what you’re looking at.”

But Jon was quick to remark that he “wasn’t looking at the sky.”

While Carol’s image did include a gorgeous blue skyline over a road, it was somewhat spoiled by a line of portable toilets.

“But it is lovely isn’t it? This is one of our weather watcher’s pictures taken a wee bit earlier in John O’Groats in the Highlands.”
