Coronation Street couple secretly married in real life leaving ITV soap fans floored

Coronation Street fans were left with their jaws on the floor after finding out that an on-screen couple is actually married in real life.

Steven Meo played businessman Rufus Donahue on the ITV show – arriving on the famous cobbles back in February.

In a bid to help Carla Connor (Alison King) with Underworld, Rufus, unfortunately, met his match and was murdered by serial killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).

Lou, who made her Corrie debut earlier this month, is played by Steve’s real wife, Eleanor Howell.

The pair confirmed the news of their marriage on X ahead of Eleanor’s first appearance on the ITV soap.

She told her followers: “Well, don’t mind if I do… Delighted to say I’m joining the lovely bunch at Corrie!

“Following in @stevemeo’s footsteps, Catch me as my real-life hubby’s on-screen widow! On-screen from this Monday… here’s hoping I catch that @todd_boyce.”

Hubby Steve then reshared the post as he said: “Hugely proud to announce my super talented wife will be appearing in #Corrie from next week on, as my On-screen grieving widow!! #proudhusband.”

The couple, who have two songs, got engaged in New York in 2010 and tied the knot in Tetbury in 2012.

Fans had no idea the two Corrie stars were married and replied to Eleanor’s post with their shock.

“Brilliant! Loving this storyline! Hope you don’t meet a similarly grisly end!” said one fan.

Someone else penned: “No way!” while a third quipped: “Awe I absolutely love this so so much!!!”

Following Eleanor’s debut on Corrie, viewers have been left fearing she could end up like her hubby, as Stephen may try to silence her for good.

The pressure was mounting for Stephen on Wednesday night (August 9), when Lou made an unexpected appearance.

Speaking candidly to Stephen and Underworld owner Carla Connor, Lou expressed her devastation while Stephen painfully looked on.

A while later, Lou spoke to Stephen and said she knew there was much more than met the eye regarding the death – insinuating that someone could have done something unlawful to Rufus.

But fans seemed to think Lou could be in danger.

Heading over to Twitter, one viewer said: “Even Lou knows that Rufus’ death doesn’t add up which means at this point Stephen must be planning on what part of Underworld to bury her under.”

Another questioned: “How long before Lou is buried 6 feet under the Bistro then?”

Meanwhile, a third viewer insinuated that Stephen my throw Lou’s body in the bin like he did with his other victim and wrote: “Stephen eyeing up Rufus wife for the bin.”
