A statement from Sir David was shared from an official supporters’ page this weekend, explaining the news.
It read: “I am so very sorry for the disappointment and all the inconvenience it may cause but we are having to change the date of the forthcoming Only Fools and Horses Convention.
“Unfortunately I have just been advised I need a new bionic body part fitted.
“I won’t tell you which part it is, or you will all want one!
“And don’t worry it’s not being supplied by Monkey Harris, it’ll be the pukka gear.”
In his statement he went on: “I want to do it with the smile on my face I always have had. It was not a decision I took at all lightly.
“Hoping to be lovely jubbly when I meet you all in the new year.”
The showbiz veteran has struggled with his health after contracting “seriously bad” Covid-19.
David was speaking to BBC Breakfast presenter Jon Kay about his new book in October when he revealed that he collapsed while getting out of bed one night when he had covid-19 during the Summer.
The Open All Hours star said: “I got it seriously bad.
“Because all the muscles weren’t working, I collapsed and I fell against the radiator… I was so weak, I couldn’t get up.”

Saying that he tried to get out of bed to go to the toilet, Sir David explained that he had to use the bed to try and stand up as his muscles “weren’t working.”
“I crawled to the bed. The muscles weren’t working and I used the bed to try and stand up so that I could go to where I wanted to get, and also get back into bed, and I couldn’t…
“I tried for about a quarter of an hour, trying all sorts of things to stand up so I could walk about.”
Sir David added that he attempted to get to the door to call to his wife, but had to figure out an alternative way to get to the door as his “arms really weren’t working and the legs weren’t working.”
