Her career started out in journalism but she soon found her way onto radio and television.

While hosing the BBC quiz show, she was known for mocking the contestants.

Anne’s iconic catchphrase “You are the weakest link, goodbye!” was famous across the country.

The first episode aired on August 14 2000 and Anne hosted her final episode on March 21 2012.

However, it has since been revived with celebrity contestants and the show is now presented by Romesh Ranganahan.

Daily Star has marked the 23rd anniversary since the first episode aired by looking inside original host Anne’s personal life.

Anne started her professional career as a journalist and was the first young female trainer at The Daily Mail.

She secured a permanent position at the paper after scooping the details of Brian Epstein’s death.

She is best known for hosting BBC game show The Weakest Link from 2000 to 2017 and Watchdog for 15 years.

She also presenter Channel 4 series Countdown from June 2021 until July 2022, taking over from Nick Hewer.

The former Countdown presenter met her first husband, who was her boss, Charlie Wilson when she worked as a journalist for the Daily Mail.

In 1968, the pair the knot and Anne quit her job as married couples weren’t allowed to work together.

Two years later, Anne gave birth the couple’s daughter Emma and she began working for The Sunday Times.

Shortly after, Anne and Charlie divorced with an intense custody battle over Emma Wilson, who was two at the time.

Due to Anne being an drinking heavily at the time, Charlie won the custody battle and was granted sole custody, care and control over the couple’s daughter.

Emma lived with Charlie until she left home aged 16 for boarding school.

Anne’s lookalike daughter later became a British radio DJ and has also hosted Scaredy Camp, a game show in the United States on Nickelodeon.

The pair reconnected during coronavirus lockdown as Emma, Emma’s husband Liam Kan and their sons Hudson and Parker live with Anne for almost six months.

Previously speak to the Mirror, Anne admitted it was a ‘powerful experience’ to have Emma and her family with her under the same roof again and said it allowed the pair to reconnect and see into their daily lives.

In 1980, Anne married second husband John Penrose with the marriage lasting 27 years.

The TV star was at the peak of her career when the couple decided to split in 2007 siting “irreconcilable differences”.

According to OK!, the divorce from journalist John cost her £20million but she reportedly got to keep their London townhouse, New York penthouse, Lond Island mansion and Gloucestershire cottage.

Anne previously opened up about “really bad drink problem”.

She stopped drinking in 1978 and joined Alcoholics Anonymous after she picked up daughter Emma from school and drove to a buy a bottle of vodka.

She previously told the Mail Online: “By my mid-30s, I got to the point where I probably had about six weeks to live.

“I suffered from a really bad drink problem and my weight dropped down to about six stone.”

In 2001, Anne was diagnosed with skin cancer and had surgery to treat it.

The TV star previously admitted that she regretted not waiting before debuting her facelift on television.

Anne was mocked after getting the cosmetic surgery when she was around 60 years old and appearing on The Weakest Link.

Speaking to Angela Scanlon’s Ask Me Anything on Irish TV, she says she wishes she had not gone straight onto TV with the new look.

She explained: ‘When you have cosmetic surgery it is a bit like taking a leg of lamb out of the oven. You have to let it rest for a bit.

‘I went on television quite quickly afterwards and it was a famous headline which said, “This face is the Weakest Link” as it was quite blown up.’

However, Anne revealed she doesn’t regret being honest about the work she had done in 2004.
