Barbie sequel already in the works as insider says original crew are to return

A major update on the upcoming sequel for the Barbie movie has been released.

The hugely successful film was released on 21 July 2023 and has already raked in a whopping $1 billion at the box office.

Bosses are reportedly already working on a second instalment to the Barbie cinematic universe and a source has revealed some alleged details.

The insider said: “Crew who worked on the Barbie film have been contacted to discuss working on the follow-up. It is very early days, but it’s become apparent that bosses want the same crew for the sequel as they did for the first.”

“Emails have been sent but firmer details have to be finalised.”

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are likely to return to their roles

As news of the Barbie sequel reached the internet, fans flocked to social media to share their thoughts.

On X, formerly Twitter, one fan wrote: “Barbie was perfect, I really hope they don’t make a sequel.”

Some demanded “different characters” for the next film while others couldn’t believe that a sequel is already in the works.

Another posted: “I wonder if Barbie might get either a sequel or a spin-off movie years from now. Kinda like Top Gun did.”

Fans can’t wait to see what Barbie gets up to next

Someone else added: “I think a sequel about Allan and Stereotypical Ken sans Barbie has potential to be funny.”

Although some think that Barbie should be missing from the upcoming sequel, it’s highly likely that Margot Robbie will return to the role considering she plays the title character.

Margot is also the brains behind the idea for the film and got Oscar-nominated director Greta Gerwig on board to help her dream come to life.

Margot obtained the rights to make Barbie back in 2018

Barbie is the first film made by a female director to surpass the $1 billion mark, but it wouldn’t have been possible without Robbie getting the ball rolling.

Margot approached Mattel, the company behind the doll, for the rights to make the film way back in 2018.

Robbie famously picked her all-star cast based on their natural aura and “Barbie energy”.

Famous faces include Derry Girls’ Nicola Coughlan, My Mad Fat Diary’s Sharon Rooney, Sex Education’s Emma Mackey and chart-topping singer Dua Lipa.
