Tipping Point’s Ben Shephard issues stern warning as player misses out on huge cash prize

Tipping Point star Ben Shephard issued a warning after a contestant marginally missed out on taking home the huge jackpot prize.

The presenter, 48, welcomed players Jonny, Debbie, Kendelle and David into the studio on Wednesday (August 16) who put their general knowledge to the test.

First out of the competition was Debbie, closely followed by English teacher Kendelle, leaving Johnny and David battling it out head-to-head in a nail-biting round.

After beating David by £200, Jonny explained his clear plan involving the jackpot counter, admitting he promised his wife he would always “take the trade” at the end of the competition.

As Jonny debated the decision, he told Ben that his wife jokingly said: “Don’t come home unless it’s with £10,000.”

But with £2,950 in the bank, Jonny had a moment of doubt and buckled at the final hurdle, taking the money instead of trading it for another three counters to push the jackpot counter over the edge.

Ben said: “But of course, you promised yourself you would take the trade if you were in this situation, so we are going to play it out.

“See if you should have gone for it and if that jackpot would have dropped with these three trade counters.”

Jonny was filled with instant regret as he watched the first counter enter the machine, with the coin landing in perfect position and knocking the jackpot counter over the tipping point.

As the show came to a close, the Good Morning Britain presenter noted Jonny wasn’t walking away empty handed, however reminded him of his error once again.

“He got a lovely prize, but if he just backed himself and just trusted his instinct and gone for it and taken the trade, he’d be leaving now with £10,000. It only took one trade counter,” Ben said.

“It’s very easy to say when you are at home ‘that you would go for it’ but very different when you are stood here.”
