Gemma Atkinson forced to hit back at mum-shaming trolls after parenting backlash

Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson has hit back at mum-shaming trolls after they criticised her for the programmes her daughter watches on TV.

The 38-year old recently shared a picture online of her little girl Mia, who she shares with Strictly Come Dancing pro Gorka Marquez, watching the CrossFit games on television.

However the light-hearted post was met with concern from one follower who questioned Gemma’s parenting skills while stating that her child should be watching kids programmes instead of the athletic competition.

The user messaged the star privately and wrote: “Are you not afraid that you are going to make her body conscious watching all that TV, she should be watching kids programmes.”

They then warned: “Be careful as this type of exposure to kids can cause them to be body conscious and have eating problems.”

However an unimpressed Gemma didn’t take to kindly to the comment and shared the message on her main Instagram account with a sharp response.

She wrote: “I received this message about Mia loving CrossFit.

“The ‘should be watching kids programmes’ baffled me a little.

The star was left ‘baffled’ by the comment

“One of our friends is one of the best CrossFit athletes in the world and whenever she’s been to stay with us, Mia has looked up to her in awe of her physical strength and capabilities in regards to gymnastics etc.”

The Strictly Come Dancing star then argued that her family have a good “balance” and healthy relationship with food.

She continued: “We have (in my opinion) the perfect balance. I’m personally very happy that Mia loves sports and that she has strong role models and she CHOOSES to watch the games. I’m sick of watching it tbh.

“When it’s not CrossFit she loves The Yorkshire Vet or Come Dine With Me. Genuinely! So no, I’m not afraid it’ll cause her image problems.

“I’m pleased it will give her confidence, great social skills and a zest for life.”

This isn’t the only time Gemma has received backlash from mum-shaming trolls.

Gemma recently received backlash after she shared a snap of her new-born son Thiago laying down on a mat with their dog Norman alongside him.

Some of her followers thought it was too close for comfort, with one writing at the time: “You still have to be careful with any dogs with a baby or child.”
