BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood steps in as Naga and Charlie have ‘domestic’ on air

BBC Breakfast meteorologist Carol Kirkwood playfully accused her co-stars of having a “domestic” spat on Thursday (August 24).

Charlie Stayt, 61, and Naga Munchetty, 48, teamed up for the latest instalment of the morning programme, presenting viewers with the top news stories of the day.

The TV duo explained that Paddington Bear is set to appear on 10 stamps released by Royal Mail to mark his 65th anniversary, having first appeared in 1958.

Some of the stamps feature images from Ivor Wood’s comic strip cartoons, which were originally published in the London Evening News in the late 1970s.

While others have been taken from Paddington’s BBC series that Wood directed from 1976 onwards.

As a photo of the marmalade-loving Peruvian bear appeared on screen, Naga declared: “He hasn’t aged has he?”

Charlie added: “That’s the joy of being a cartoon character isn’t it?,” as he turned and looked at his co-star.

“I wouldn’t know about that,” responded a stern Naga. “Carol, how do you feel about that? Good morning,” she laughed.

“Good morning. I’m not getting involved in your domestics!,” the meteorologist insisted before heading into her first weather report of the day.

Naga and Charlie regularly raise eyebrows amongst fans who question whether there is tension behind the scenes.

Also in today’s episode of BBC Breakfast, the presenters ran through the day’s top headlines in newspapers, with one discussing which is the top sandwich to buy in a supermarket.

The duo clearly didn’t agree on their choices, with Naga claiming the perfect sandwich filling is egg mayonnaise.

After the discussion, viewers headed online to reflect on their interaction.

Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “Naga ’s eye-rolls off the scale this morning as Charlie mansplains the ins and outs of the great British sandwich. Good to see such heart-warming chemistry between presenters.”

A second added: “#Naga always feels the need to correct Charlie doesn’t she? #BBCBreakfast”.
