Only Fools and Horses star says he ‘gives up’ after A&E horror during cancer battle

Only Fools and Horses star Patrick Murray was left gutted after spending 10 hours in A&E.

The 66-year-old actor, who is currently being treated for cancer, revealed that he had to give up and go home after waiting for so long at the hospital.

Patrick had been advised by his doctor to go to A&E after suffering with a high temperature.

Taking to X, formerly, Twitter, he wrote: “Ten hours waiting in A&E is unacceptable. I gave up and went home. The workers are wonderful, but the system is seriously flawed. The NHS needs fixing, not hollow promises.”

Fans rushed to share their sympathy in the comments, but the actor was forced to hit back at one individual who criticised his hospital trip.

The person had commented: “Maybe try the doctors or pharmacist next time. A&E is full of people who don’t need to be there and could use alternatives. You said yourself you gave up and went home which suggests it wasn’t urgent.”

Patrick replied: “I was sent there by the chemotherapy dept because I was running a fever. Infections can be very dangerous when you are on chemo. If you have any more patronising advice, maybe you should keep it to yourself. Good health.”

Murray, who played Mickey Pearce in the beloved BBC sitcom, has revealed that his cancer has returned after being given the all-clear last year.

The actor has been diagnosed with lung cancer which has spread to other areas of his body, including his legs and lymphatic system.

He wrote: “Despite all the wonderful efforts by the medical and nursing teams at Medway, Guys and Kings College hospitals, the lung cancer has returned.

“I thought I had a painful groin strain a couple of months ago, unfortunately that turned out to be the cancer getting into my pelvis and leg bones. It has also entered my lymphatic system.”

However, he was staying positive and reassured fans that his his chemotherapy would “keep things in check” for months nd even years.
