Holly Willoughby doesn’t ‘recognise’ world of ‘toxic’ This Morning complaints

This Morning’s Holly Willoughby acknowledged the show’s “toxic” complaints at the National Television Awards.

The host spoke openly about her time on the show and the “difficult” few months she’s had to face since Philip Schofield’s exit.

Since his departure, more complaints from past and present staff have come to light, with employees taking their issues to Parliament.

There were claims that the show was “toxic” and had a “bullying” culture.

Talking about the claims, Holly told The Daily Star: “I know there have been lots of reports and personally I don’t want to speak on behalf of others, but it’s a world I honestly don’t recognise.

“So for me I look around – I saw the team all getting ready in makeup – everybody’s giddy knickers. I just want to come to work and have more of that.”

However, talking further about how she’s felt across the past few months and the mixed viewer response, she added: “If I’m really honest it’s been up and down.

“I think it’s been a really difficult year for everybody but what’s lovely is, you find that people rally around you and the goodwill is there. People want things to move on.

“It all feels different. During Covid, the viewers relied on us to kind of give them help and talk them through it and give that bit of grounding and information. It’s funny now, because I think that’s what’s lovely about This Morning.

“Sometimes it flips the other way, and you walk down here [the red carpet] and it all feels good again.”

When asked about the fate of the show, she explained how she wants it just to “continue how it is”.

Holly, 41, said: “I’d love to just continue how it is. We are very blessed. We have a great team of people, we really do, and for me personally, I don’t want to speak on behalf of other people, but I look around, I see the team getting in makeup… I just want to come to work and more of that.

“I think we’re set to continue that.”
