Botched surgeon opens up on harrowing health battle as ‘stroke’ symptoms saved his life

Botched surgeon Dr Terry Dubrow had a very close call after a recent “stroke-like” episode which took place while at a restaurant with his wife.

The E! icon spoke exclusively to Daily Star about his recent health struggles and explained how the incident stopped him from later taking a flight, which would have complicated matters even further.

Dubrow was scheduled to appear on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen but was forced to cancel due to the “mini stroke”.

He explained: “Unfortunately I didn’t get to go, so I had to make an appearance from my house.”

“Thank goodness [my wife] Heather was persistent because the teeny little blot clot I had rapidly dissolved, but had I gone on a plane to see Andy – six hours from California to New York – I certainly had the great potential for a larger clot.”

Terry then shared the potentially terrifying outcome if he had stepped foot on the plane.

He said: “Rather than it being the size of a period [full stop], it [could have been] the size of an eraser.

“That’s a different kind of problem in your brain, that could give you a very life-altering stroke.”

Dr Terry experienced a “mini stroke” while out for dinner with Heather, who urged the surgeon to seek medical help.

Dubrow originally refused to get himself checked out, but thanks to Heather’s persistence, a small blood clot was found.

The Botched star is now feeling a lot better and admits he is “a lot healthier than most 30-year-olds” as he “monitors his health extraordinarily carefully”.

Terry said: “I’m doing great. I had that very rare cause of TIA, mini stroke – the same Hailey Bieber had – I had it fixed the same way Hailey Bieber [did too]. I may not look like [her] but I think I’m very healthy now!”

“It’s funny, people ask me: ‘Was that a wake up call? Are you going to look at your life differently?’ I don’t think that having an unknown hole in your heart that has been repaired is a reason for introspection on the way you live your life.”

“Although I did have a hole in my heart, communicating from the right to the left side, this very temporary problem my wife identified. She fortunately insisted that I go to the hospital – it’s been repaired!”
