BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty forced to step in as she shuts down co-star ‘rumour’

BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty stepped in to “save” co-star Ben Thompson after he was tipped to take part in Strictly Come Dancing.

The duo teamed up to present the top news headlines on Friday (September 15), with Ben replacing Naga’s usual co-host Charlie Stayt.

During the morning programme, the hosts checked in with Morning Live stars Gethin Jones and Gaby Roslin to see what they had coming up on their show.

Gaby, 59, couldn’t hide her delight when Gethin spoke about the upcoming series of Strictly as she squealed: “I’m counting the hours. I love Strictly so much. I cannot wait!”

Fanning herself, Gaby exclaimed: “I’m so excited!”

The Children in Need presenter then turned to her co-host and suggested: “Ben should do it you know. Ben should do it!”

Looking back into the camera with a huge grin, Gaby demanded: “Ben do Strictly.”

Stepping in, Naga could be heard saying: “Okay, I’m going to save you. Thanks very much Gaby and Gethin.”

As the room filled with laughter, Ben responded: “This is how rumours start Gaby isn’t it? We’ll see you at 9:15.”

It comes after fans speculated that something occurred behind the scenes between Naga and Charlie after he was missing for the second time this week.

The 61-year-old usually presents the morning programme with the radio host from Thursday to Saturday every week.

Charlie’s absence from Thursday’s (September 14) show was debated amongst BBC viewers who headed to social media to question whether there had been some sort of fall out between the two.
