Music legend wants Coronation Street cameo after decades-long singing career

Daniel O’Donnell is after a “wee cameo” on his favourite soap Coronation Street.

The singer is back on the road after celebrating his last album giving him an entry in the UK top 40 chart for the 35th year in a row.

But the Irishman said there is one dream he still wants to see come true – appearing on the ITV soap.

The 61-year-old told the Daily Star Sunday in an exclusive chat from his home in Donegal: “Going on Coronation Street is a pipe dream.

“I would take a cameo. I’ve always watched Coronation Street and it is my favourite soap on the TV. I’ve met Charlie Lawson (who played Jim McDonald).

“I’ve met a few of the Coronation Street and I went a couple of times to the set in Manchester.

“I would take any role – as a singer or a cameo – it doesn’t really matter to me.”

Last year Daniel celebrated his 20th anniversary with wife Majella.

It was also the year his 14-track collection, I Wish You Well, landed in the charts due to his loyal fanbase.

He is now back touring ahead of the release of his next album, How Lucky I Must Be, in November.

Daniel said he feels like his life has been “lucky” and “blessed”.

But he admitted he was still struggling with the death of his sister Kathleen in February at the age of 67.

He added: “It was a big shock for us all. We still can’t get our heads around the fact that she is gone – she wasn’t old, she was 67 and died suddenly.

“But what can we do about these things? You have to accept it, even though it’s not easy to accept.

“We have to be grateful for the life we had with her and the memories that we have of her.”
