Jonnie Irwin says he’s got ‘no idea what to do’ as he asks fans for help

Jonnie Irwin has turned to fans for help as he ploughs on with his home renovation, admitting he’s got “no idea what to do” when it comes to the next phase.

The A Place In The Sun star is battling terminal lung cancer – which has spread to his brain – but is keeping busy doing up the home he shares with his wife Jess and their three little boys. Sharing a video update on Instagram, he said some new windows had gone in, explaining natural light is “key” to the home.

With the windows sorted, Jonnie’s thoughts have turned to the driveway, which currently has block paving that he said needs replacing. “I didn’t really think about it but it’s 100 square meters,” he said.

“That’s a lot of product… so I am going to endeavour to use a local supplier because you don’t want to be carting up stone on the M1 and it’s more environmentally friendly and I’m all about supporting local trades… but I’ve got no idea what to do with this. I have got a couple of samples – light or dark cobbles? You decide!”

Fans shared lots of tips in the comments section after Jonnie, 49, uploaded the video. And many also remarked on how good it was to see and hear him.

“Oh Jonnie lovely to hear your resolute presenting voice again,” said one, as another declared: “I love your voice!” Someone else said: “You are an absolute inspiration Jonnie.”

“Dark cobbles Jonnie and hats off to you for getting so organised,” praised one fan. Another added: “Dark cobbles IMHO – think lighter colour just shows up grime/moss etc quicker – you’re sounding much better in your voice! Stronger.”

The TV star is fighing cancer

Another fan said the Escape To The Country star was a “trooper”. Jonnie was told he had cancer in 2020 and at the time he was given just months to live.

The TV star kept his illness quiet at first and has since explained that he was concerned about the impact it could have on his career if people knew he had cancer. He went public with his diagnosis last year and has been open about his determination to fight and make the most of the time he has left with Jess and their sons Rex, Rafa and Cormac.
