Alison Hammond ‘put on a stone’ filming Bake Off after trying tasty bakes on BBC set

Alison Hammond has said she put on a stone when she joined Bake Off because she kept trying all the yummy cakes.

The This Morning host has joined the baking show as a co-host alongside Noel Fielding, taking over from former presenter Matt Lucas after he announced that although it had been “delicious” he was “cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else”.

Alison, 48, has said it’s already been a blast being in the famous tent alongside the likes of judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. But, speaking to OK! alongside her co-stars, she said she’d piled on a few pounds to start with.

Paul reminded the TV star: “You did make a mistake in the first week and went round and ate everything! You said, ‘I am never doing that ever again’.”

Alison then told the mag: “I have put on a stone. I couldn’t believe it. I am literally going running tomorrow! I am just going to get bigger!”

Paul, 57, agreed that it was “difficult”, saying that you try to just “take little bits” but that the cakes had been top-notch this year. Alison’s role on the show was confirmed earlier this year and many Bake Off fans have said they are thrilled. Others who said they don’t usually tune in to the Channel 4 baking competition have said they will be watching this series because they are such big fans of the presenter.

Matt and Noel had hosted together since 2020, but the Little Britain star decided that it was tough juggling everything. Announcing his departure on social media, he told viewers: “Farewell Bake Off!”

“It’s been a delicious experience and I can’t imagine a more fun way of spending my summers,” he said. “But it’s become clear to me that I can’t present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all my other projects.”

He thanked everyone involved in the production, including the “wonderful bakers” on the show every year. “I wish whoever takes over all the very best and I can’t wait to tune into the next series without already knowing who won!” Matt joked.
