A contestant who appeared on The Chase on Tuesday (September 24) shared his wild career on the show and left host Bradley Walsh speechless.
Walking towards the host in a classy brown blazer, Martin always looked like he had the makings of a fine quizzer. And he quickly proved those assumptions correct.
After telling Bradley that he was from Lightwater in Surrey, which he claimed is: “Familiar from traffic reports as in tailing back to junction three at Lightwater,” the quizzer quickly rendered the Doctor Who star perplexed when he explained what he does for a living.

After being asked about his background, Martin quickly replied: “I’m a drug designer,” which prompted Bradley to pull a confused facial expression.
A shocked Bradley, managed to muster an: “Ok,” before suggesting: “So, a chemist originally?”
Showing off his brains, Martin responded: “I’m a synthetic organic chemist. I’m a mechanic who puts together molecules.”
After 40 years of operating at the top level of the scientific industry, Bradley couldn’t help but wonder how the genius switches off. But as it turns out, when he’s not involved in the pharmaceutical world, he’s writing fantasy books, having published four novels, with a fifth and sixth ready to hit the shelves.
Explaining what his books are about, Martin said: “The first two are small-scale adventures, set in a world like Game of Thrones only if the bad guys win, winter doesn’t come. The other two are modern, set around Southampton and New Forest, where I’m originally from, with a half-fairy synthetic chemist PhD student.”
As the conversation rolled on, it became evident that the intellectual can turn his hand to pretty much anything, as after being asked about his quizzing ability, he revealed: “I used to run my own quiz.”
Unsurprisingly, he performed to an exceptional standard in the cash builder, as while his lack of interest in Bill Joel rose to the surface, he more than made up for it with his knowledge of Scooby-Doo and honey badgers, accumulating an impressive £6000.
But despite his excellent showing, he didn’t do enough to impress ‘The Vixen’.
She scowled: “It’s great that you do your own quiz, but let’s be honest, they let any half-wit do that nowadays, don’t they, Brad?”
The ex-Coronation Street actor chuckled: “Exactly right.”
But despite the trash-talk, Martin remained composed, as he engaged in a tense Chase with one of the best quizzers in the country.
Ultimately, after several twists and turns, the contestant confirmed that the bear at the centre of the Californian flag is brown, and on that note, he sailed through to the Final Chase, giving him the opportunity to win the prize money that will pay for a new cochlear implant.
