Alison Hammond takes cheeky swipe at Josie Gibson as she brands This Morning pal ‘basic’

In a brutal blow, live on This Morning, Alison Hammond turned on Josie Gibson, calling her “basic” in an epic television moment.

Over the years, the pair of popular hosts have become incredibly close, with their relationship extending far beyond the television screen. Alison even has Josie over to her house at Christmas for a spot of a turkey and some wonderfully cooked pigs in blankets.

However, on this occasion, the Birmingham presenter turned her back on their history. Utilising her clever wit, the 48-year-old left her co-host speechless.

Returning from an advertisement break in a way Josie thought to be condescending, Alison said: “Welcome back. It’s so lovely to have your company, Josie.” Evidently finding the comment patronising, the 2010 Big Brother winner shouted: “Stop doing that,” before the Brummie hit back: “I’m being serious.” At this point, Josie decided she had to make her mark

She asserted: “You always big me up, and I love it, but sometimes it’s too much.” Amused by the whole situation, her friend chuckled: “Have I been told?”

Giggling away, Alison gave herself a little slap on the wrist, as she said: “No more bigging you up.” As an idea sprung to mind, a rye smile appeared across the presenter’s face as she fired her final shot, beaming: “So, we’re back with this basic one.”

Luckily, while things could have gone in a worrying direction, Josie found the comment rather amusing. Much to the delight of viewers, who enjoy their on-screen chemistry, rather than engage in fisty cuffs, the duo burst out laughing, showcasing their unbreakable bond.

However, while tensions subsided, Josie still felt like she had to get her own back. And luckily, she was given a brilliant opportunity.

Switching away from the studio, the programme joined Jeff Brazier, who was reporting from Southwick, Northamptonshire. And in what can only be described as journalism at its finest, he watched on as a man dressed as Elvis Presley battled a female in a bucket hat in the World Conker Championships.

Unsurprisingly, captivated by the sporting prowess on display, Alison and Josie couldn’t resist giving the game a go for themselves. And through her days playing outside as a kid, it was the Bristol girl who got the better of the encounter.

In a brutal hit, Josie fired her conker into her rival’s with an incredible velocity that nearly split it straight down the middle. Astounded by the power in her opponent’s shot, Alison gasped: “You’ve nearly smashed my conker.”

Feeling confident, Josie replied: “Have a go on mine. Conker my conker.” Alas, showing a real lack of experience, Alison fired wide of the target and had to ask for advice, questioning: “How do you do it? It’s my first conker game. It’s really hard, isn’t it?”

Shocked by what her nemesis had just come out with, Josie revealed a piece of information that suggested this was always going to be a mismatch. She said: “You never played this as a kid. As a Tom Boy, I used to take all the boys out.”

After several efforts, Alison finally landed her shot. And this time, it was Josie’s turn to do the patronising. She smirked: “Not as good as me, but well done.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
