Channel 4 chaos as Steph McGovern turns up late to show as co-star forced to step in

Steph’s Packed Lunch was thrown into a spot of chaos as host Steph McGovern missed the start – forcing Simon Rimmer to step in.

The hit Channel 4 show returned to TV screens on Thursday (October 12) for another instalment. But the programme was looking completely different as Steph was nowhere to be seen.

Viewers tuning in hoping to see the TV favourite instead were greeted by the show’s resident chef Simon Rimmer. He was there to front the programme and hold down the fort.

He told viewers: “If you were expecting to see Steph, well, me too. Her train was delayed so she’s running late.”

Simon had to step in and host the show for a while

As he mimicked taking a drink, he added: “It was nothing to do with the fact that she was at an awards show last night. She will be joining me a little bit later on – but welcome to Simon’s Packed Lunch.”

Steph was one of many celebs at the Attitude Awards in London. The likes of Alex Scott, Amanda Holden and Alan Carr were in attendance too.

Steph filmed herself on her way to the studios

In the first segment of the show, Steph made an appearance from her car via a video call. She told Simon: “We were coming up from London because I was at the Attitude Awards. I didn’t actually drink – or did I?”

She explained: “”The train stopped and it didn’t get going again. We ended up getting booted off at Grantham.”

Later on in the show, Steph eventually managed to make it to the studios. Bursting through the doors, the show’s lunch mates all cheered with applause as she ran over and hugged Simon. She proclaimed: “I’m back!”

Simon isn’t the only celeb to fill in for Steph when needed though. Last September, former Spice Girl Mel B presented the show For Channel 4’s Black to Front Day, which was an initiative to promote greater diversity on television.

Show regulars Denise Van Outen and Strictly Come Dancing star Helen Skelton have also fronted the programme a few times. As well as Carol Vorderman and Nick Grimshaw.
