Bruce Willis ‘not totally verbal’ and his ‘joy has gone’ in heartbreaking update

Bruce Willis is “not totally verbal,” according to a new statement made by a close friend.

The Hollywood star is currently battling frontotemporal dementia, a neurodegenerative disorder he was diagnosed with back in March 2022.

Moonlighting director Glenn Gordon Caron has spoken out about his friend and has assured fans Willis is “still Bruce,” despite his health issues.

Caron, who tries to see Willis “every month or so,” said: “He’s not totally verbal. He used to be a voracious reader, he didn’t want anyone to know that, and he’s not reading now. All those language skills are no longer available to him and yet he’s still Bruce.”

“When you’re with him, you know that he’s Bruce and you’re grateful that he’s there, but the ‘joie de vivre’ is gone.”

Moonlighting featured Willis’ breakout role as detective David Addison back in 1985. The series is now streaming on Hulu and Caron said that he knows Bruce is “really happy to see that the show is going to be available” for people to watch, even though the actor “can’t tell him that”.

Glenn said that when the pair “spent time together,” they talked about the update and Caron says he “knows Bruce is excited”.

The Moonlighting creator explained: “The process [to getting Moonlighting on Hulu] has taken quite a while and Bruce’s disease is a progressive disease, so I was able to communicate with him before the disease rendered him as incommunicative as he is now, about hoping to get the show back in front of people. I know it means a lot to him.”

Caron said that he “tries to talk to Bruce and his wife” and the star has a “casual relationship with Willis’ three older children”. Glenn admits he has “tried very hard to stay in his life”.

“He’s an extraordinary person. The thing that makes [his disease] so mind-blowing is [that] if you’ve ever spent time with Bruce Willis, there is no-one who had more ‘joie de vivre’ than he. He loved life and…just adored waking up every morning and trying to live life to its fullest.”
