Inside Harry Potter Hagrid star’s will – £4.9m estate and prized car collection

Robbie Coltrane reportedly left behind an estate worth almost £5million when he died.

The beloved actor, who famously played Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, died last October at the age of 72. And it’ll likely come as no surprise that the late great was worth a lot of money as he enjoyed a highly successful TV and film career.

Bagging himself the role of friendly half-giant Hagrid in the Potter films will have help him rack up a small fortune. But he also starred in tons of other projects, including ITV’s National Treasure alongside Julie Walters and sketch series Alfresco with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.

Coltrane passed away at the Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, Stirlingshire in Scotland, with his death certificate revealing that he suffered multiple organ failures among other conditions. Remembering his passing today (October 14), Daily Star has looked into Robbie’s will.

An estate worth millions

Hagrid star Robbie had an estate worth nearly £5million

Robbie made his ex-wife Rhona Gemmell and friend Gordon Bulloch trustees of his estate, and he gave most of it to his two children, Spencer and Alex. His will, which he signed in 2021, showed that the gross value of the actor’s UK assets came to £3, 848, 971.

But he also owned property and vehicles in Spain worth a whopping £776,693. He also had around £300,000 in funds in America.

Robbie decided to place most of his wealth in a trust for his kids. He reportedly held £450,000 to his sister Annie Rae and £250,000 to a godson.

Coltrane’s estate included properties in London, Scotland and Menorca.

Potter fans were used to seeing Hagrid on his flying motorbike, but it appears the man behind the role preferred pricey cars. The actor’s special car collection is said to have been worth £42,250.

He was clearly also a lover of art as he had an impressive collection of art and sculptures valued at £36,300. The actor also gave his children paintings of them done by the artist John Burns. But he gave a model of the boat RMS Aquitania to Glasgow’s Riverside Museum to be enjoyed by the public.
