Strictly’s Adam Thomas admits he ‘struggled’ before BBC show and ‘had doubts’

Adam Thomas has revealed that Strictly Come Dancing has worked miracles on his self-esteem and dramatically improved his confidence.

Now in week five of his run on BBC show Strictly, Adam and dance partner Luba Mushtuk have been stunning audiences with their stellar performance. The pair have danced cha-cha-cha, Waltz, and Tango, and escaped elimination on Sunday night (October 22).

The 35-year-old spoke to STV about how his confidence has grown since beginning the show. He commented, “It’s been a little bit of therapy for me doing this show, it really has. I’ve found a bit more self-confidence within myself, I felt like I struggled with that beforehand… which is probably the best thing to come out of this show for me.

“I doubted myself quite a bit going into this show, I never really thought about how much I did doubt myself. Just because I haven’t done it before doesn’t mean I can’t do it and I just feel like I’ve just found an inner confidence.”

Adam explained that putting himself out there on the dance floor has encouraged him to believe in himself in everyday life, adding: “I feel like when I do that I am just going to feel a lot more confident in myself and that I just need to believe in myself that, just because you haven’t done it doesn’t mean you can’t, and I think it’s just going to help with every aspect of my life.”

Adam has certainly been brave as of late, having recently made headlines for a quick trip to the hospital regarding his long-term condition. The Waterloo Road star suffers from chronic rheumatoid arthritis, having revealed his diagnosis in August.

Since the health scare, Adam has revealed he has chosen to take control over his life, and made a dramatic decision to quit alcohol. Wanting to live a healthier life, Adam explained on Instagram: “Not that I’m an alcoholic but I do love a tipple now and then … but not for enjoyment anymore which is the scary bit, but more for escape from the stress and worries of life itself.

“I’ve tried a few times to do it before, but this time I wanted to just put it out there, just so I know I’ve got to stick to it this time. I know it’s not going to be easy but it will be worth it … well it better had be.”

Adam recently teased his wife Caroline when she turned up to support him on Saturday (October 22) for the live show. He joked that she was only there so she could get closer to his co-star Bobby Brazier.
