The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan is praying for “peace and love”, says his wife Victoria Mary Clarke in an update on the 65-year old’s battle with ill health.
Shane, who is best known for his band’s Christmas hit, The Fairytale of New York, has been in intensive care for several months. The singer was first diagnosed with viral encephalitis last year and has been admitted to hospital on a number of occasions since.
Victoria, 57, has kept the star’s fans in the loop with regular updates on the Irishman’s wellbeing, and Sunday (October 22) proved no different as she posted a message from his bedside. Victoria shared two snaps to X (formerly Twitter), the first of which saw Shane smiling for the camera in a hospital gown.

In December last year Victoria shared a worrying message to social media, revealing her spouse had been rushed to hospital. It followed years of health complaints since Shane fell and broke his pelvis in 2015.
