BBC Strictly Come Dancing stars ‘frustrated’ over Layton Williams’ ‘trained’ dance background

Strictly Come Dancing contestants are reportedly feeling “frustrated” as they take aim at Layton Williams and his professional dance background.

The 29-year-old, who is partnered with Nikita Kuzmin, has been riding high in the competition so far and has received impeccable scores and critiques from the judges. Despite this, reports claim that Layton’s co-stars are not feeling too happy about his previous dance training.

An insider told the Mail on Sunday: “Of course there have always been dancers of different standards on Strictly, that’s part of the show’s greatness. But this is ridiculous, he is as good or even better than his professional partner.

“There is such an uneven playing field here that it is impossible for any of the other contestants to have a chance of winning, even if the viewers do enjoy watching a celebrity’s journey.”

The source went on to add that Layton is potentially ruining the “spirit” of the show. They also added that stars like Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Angela Rippon are wonderful to watch but are being “blown out of the water each week by someone who is a professional dancer.”

Theatre and TV star Layton studied street dance and drama at Carol Godby’s Theatre workshop in Bury. He has also studied ballet at Centre Pointe, Manchester.

He was later awarded a scholarship to Sylvia Young Theatre School located in Marylebone, London and stayed there until 2008. Layton also has a number of musical theatre credits to his name.

From 2007-2008 he starred in Billy Elliot playing the lead role. More recently, Layton was also the leading character in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

Layton has previously spoken out about his dance background and said he is trained in jazz, tap, and ballet “to a certain degree”. He insisted: “I’m absolutely not a ballet dancer, but I’ve done shows that I’ve had to play characters that are.”

Meanwhile, fans have also shared their take on Layton’s former experience as they continue to watch his spectacular performances. Taking to X, one social media user said: “‘Layton is a professional dancer’, I DO NOT CARE especially when I’m watching high-quality dances like THAT. That was amazing!!”

Meanwhile, others haven’t been so complimentary. Another viewer took to X, formerly known as Twitter and said: “Layton is a full-blown professional, and has no place in this competition.”
