Emily Blunt claims three words will automatically put her off taking a role

Emily Blunt has revealed that if she sees three words in a script she will turn down the role.

Having climbed the Hollywood ladder to take main roles in films like Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place, Mary Poppins, and The Girl on the Train, the 40-year-old can afford to be a little choosy. And the British-born actress has come clean on what it takes for her to lose interest in a film.

While promoting her TV show, The English, last year, Blunt admitted that if a certain phrase had appeared in the script she may not have taken the role in the first place. In the series she played Cornelia Locke, a woman who embarks on a revenge mission in the 1980s USA.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Blunt heaped praise on the character she portrayed, but added that things could’ve been so much different.

“It’s the worst thing ever when you open a script and read the words ‘strong female lead’. That makes me roll my eyes – I’m already out. I’m bored,” she admitted.

The actor believes that characters attributed to her disliked phrase are expected to have almost no emotion.

She said: “Those roles are written as incredibly stoic, you spend the whole time acting tough and saying tough things.”

Emily previously admitted that not staying tough once resulted in harsh words from one of her co-stars.

The actress claims Tom Cruise told her to “stop being such a p***y” while she sobbed on the set of Edge of Tomorrow.

Emily said she was emotional after suffering a series of gruesome injuries on set under the weight of a massive mechanical costume.

But co-star Tom wasn’t impressed on set of the 2014 blockbuster, and “didn’t know what to do” to help her.

Emily told the Smartless podcast: “We had to wear these enormous suits, which I think would’ve been great if we had CGI’d them but we wanted to do it in a tactile way.

“When you hear the word tactile you think that sounds nice and cosy; there was nothing cosy about these suits. It was like 85lb, it was so heavy. The first time I put it on I started to cry and [Tom] didn’t know what to do.”

The actress continued: “He just stared at me and was like, ‘I know, I know. I was like, ‘Tom i’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot’ and just started to cry.

“I said, ‘I’m feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot’.”

Emily said: “He just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes, ‘Come on, stop being such a p***y, okay?’”

Mercifully, with his tough words of encouragement, Emily was able to laugh off her worries.
