Horror movie has male pregnancy scene so disturbing people stormed out of cinemas

A horror film so disturbing it made cinema-goers storm out of theatres has resurfaced online – and it’s leaving fans distraught after watching.

The British cult flick by A24 comes from the twisted mind of Alex Garland, the filmmaker behind Annihilation and Ex Machina. Referred to as the “b*****d child” of Get Out and Hereditary, the film in question is Men, starring Jessie Buckley.

It’s a truly messed up plot. Loosely, it follows Harper, who takes a break in a rural English manor house after the death of her abusive husband. But the village she’s staying in proves very eerie, and she begins to see one particular man – played by Rory Kinnear – everywhere.

One terrifying scene in particular sees Roy’s character give birth – to himself – over and over in a writhing, soggy mess of a twisted pregnancy scare. And at that point, some viewers were just done and out of there. Actor Rory, meanwhile, had to go full-frontally naked in front of the cameras.

The sick scenes see a man give birth to a man with a broken ankle and torn hand each time, over and over, replicating a bizarre cloning process that had fans ready to reach for the barf bags. Taking to X – formerly Twitter – one said: “The new A24 movie Men was so disturbing I wanted to crawl out of my own body.”

While someone else penned: “The new A24 movie is one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen.” Another fan wrote: “I’ve seen a lot of disturbing, horrifying horror movies, but Men really made me want to walk out the theatre from being so disturbed.”

Kinnear’s experience really brought the film to life for him, confessing to Metro: “Particularly when they try and warm you up with one of those foil blankets afterwards and you realise it’s going to stick to you and various lumps come away with it.

“Obviously, there were models to represent various apertures that I would emerge from, but it certainly felt like I was doing it for real,” he confessed. Thankfully, he and Buckley were “comfortable” with each other by the time shooting that scene rolled around.

He told Vanity Fair: “As the film got more intimate, as the film got more versatile, odder, we knew each other by then so well, we had done so many other scenes together, that we had a really healthy approach to the tenor of the piece.

“If you’re getting on with someone as well as Jessie and I got on and you’re doing a scene where you’re bringing a lobster claw around their neck, you’re going to find it funny the first time you do it, but that’s okay. Because we both were committed to realising it as impactfully as we hoped it would be.”
