Famous royal ‘in talks’ to join This Morning line-up after Holly Willoughby exit

This Morning could be getting a member of the Royal Family within its ranks.

The Duchess of York is the latest surprise contender to land a role on the ITV show after Holly Willoughby quit This Morning. It’s said Sarah Ferguson has joined the race after impressing ITV bosses with her guest appearance on Loose Women to discuss her breast cancer journey earlier this month.

The 64-year-old is in talks with the show’s executives for a guest slot on the channel’s flagship show. Its main presenter Holly departed last month after 14 years, telling fans she was stepping down “for the sake of her family” after it emerged she was the target of an attempted kidnap and murder plot.

A TV source told the Mirror: “The Duchess was a real hit with ITV bosses on Loose Women, everyone thought she was a natural. There is an open invitation for her to return to Loose Women and there is also talk of her doing a guest slot on This Morning or a mini-series for them.”

“She has done quite a lot of TV work before – at one point she stood in for Larry King in the US.” A source close to the Duchess claimed she had “hugely enjoyed” presenting on Loose Women to plug a breast cancer campaign.

It’s not her only TV presenting experience. She has worked as a special correspondent on NBC’s Today in the States and stood in for Larry King in the US for a stint.

Prior to her departure her former co-star Philip Schofield was sensationally axed from the programme after revealing he had lied to his bosses about having relations with a junior member of staff. A number of names have been circulating as to could be the next new permanent host including the likes of Davina McCall, Rylan Clark and Abbey Clancey, with Alison Hammond, Josie Gibson and Rochelle Humes currently sharing the role on a rotating part-time basis.

Duchess Sarah has been on the show multiple times. Back in March she starred on it and Holly asked if she would be interested in returning to the show with a love phone-in.

The Duchess seemed keen saying: “Holly, I would love to do that maybe when you’re back from your annual leave and the Easter holidays! But there’s no question, that is right on topic. We love to love.”

It comes as Cat Deeley has been rumoured to host This Morning. Cat has reportedly joined the show as a presenter and will make her debut with Rylan Clark on November 13.

Holly left This Morning earlier this year

The TV personality and actress, 47, began her career as a co-presenter for the ITV children’s show SMTV Live, for which she won a BAFTA Children’s Award, and its spin-off chart show CD:UK.

A source told The Sun: “Cat is a seasoned pro and execs have been keen to get her in for a while. She takes live TV in her stride and his really witty and personable with guests.

“She is comfortable interviewing both pop stars and politicians, so if it goes well she could be a much more permanent solution to Holly leaving. Cat would be safe captain to steady the ship.”
