Nigel Farage shares unearthed clip of Ant and Dec approving his I’m A Celeb camp entry

Nigel Farage has taken to social media to share a video clip featuring I’m A Celebrity hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly apparently endorsing his participation in the show this season.

“Give the people what they want!” Farage wrote alongside a side-eye emoji before tagging Ant and Dec, amid a growing petition for Farage to be axed from the show before it even begins. In the clip, Dec reads out a suggestion: “Dan says Nigel Farage,” to which Ant responds, “Dan, that is a very, very good idea. Very good idea,” while Dec chimes in, “I’d like to see that.”

The wait won’t be long for viewers eager to see how Farage fares on the show, as his I’m A Celebrity debut is just a few days away, set to hit screens on Sunday evening (November 14). Joining him in the jungle are celebrities such as JLS star Marvin Humes, EastEnders actress Danielle Harold, and Britney Spears’ younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears.

Campaigners have been calling for people to boycott this year’s show on ITV with more than 1,000 people have sent complaints to Ant and Dec. The pair are already down under rehearsing for the show’s big launch in just a few days time.

ITV has now responded to the backlash, saying in a statement: “I’m A Celebrity has always featured a diverse cast from all areas of public life and has a history of featuring political figures throughout its 20 years on screen. As with any camp mate, viewers are invited to form their own opinions when the show begins on Sunday.”

For Farage, his decision to participate in the show is driven by a desire to “test” himself. He said: “I want to test myself. Business, politics, media, I’ve done so many different jobs and generally I have been reasonably successful.

“But I have never been tested in quite this way. It’s such a mental test and maybe I will discover- who I really am.” Farage’s decision to join the show comes after former Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s controversial participation last year.

Reflecting on Hancock’s move, Farage commented: “I understood why Matt Hancock did it. He went in there with his reputation on the floor. The truth is, after the banking issue I raised a few months ago, and winning at the TRIC awards, I am going in at a different stage of my career.”
