ITV I’m A Celebrity nightmare as record number of snakes spotted around jungle camp

Slipper former politician Nigel Farage won’t be the only thing slithering around camp – as there have been record numbers of snakes spotted.

The I’m A Celebrity site in Murwillumbah in New South Wales has seen more snakes found in the lead up to the start of the series than ever before, with 15 discovered in and around the camp since ITV arrived a few weeks ago. The show’s Health and safety boss Jeremy Douglas said: “We have had a lot of snakes on the site this year, you get small eyed snakes and brown tree snakes predominantly.”

Executive producer Laura Woolf added: “We’ve had 15 snake sightings across the site and then we’ve had to identify some venomous ones in camp. It gets worse when the celebs come in because they leave food everywhere. It’s like they don’t realise they’re living in a jungle!”

Although brown tree snakes are large and have venom they are relatively harmless to humans. But the Small eyed snake is a highly-Venomous snake and a bite could be fatal. The range from 50-90cm and shelter under rocks, logs, sheets of bark. The camp contains some new elements this year with decking and a bench in a new area by the pool which bosses hope will be a new area to gossip.

Fan favourite Kiosk Kev has upgraded his bike to an old ice cream van where contestants will hope to win treats and the jungle shower is no longer the only way to clean off in style. A bathing area has been upgraded and a turn of a wooden wheel will produce warm water for a jungle bath with incredible views.

Bosses are also kicking off the series with a huge stunt in Alice Springs overlooking Uluru, formerly Ayers Rock, as the backdrop. Filming is thought to have begun there and Garage, Josie Gibson and Nella Rose are taking on a challenge 2000 miles away from where they will sleep under the stars back in the Murwillumbah jungle.

There will also be other trials for the rest of the celebs closer to camp, including a new version of the Walk The Plank challenge 100 metres up on top of the Focus Building in Surfers Paradise. Executive producer Laura Woolf added: “The launch show is bigger and there are things we have never done before. One of the trials we have got this year is the highest rig we have ever done in Australia. And there won’t be a split camp this time, they will all come to the main camp by the end of the first show and it is nice they will all be together.”

I’m A Celebrity.. Get Me Out of Here! returns to ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday, November 19 at 9pm
