TV and radio star Sam Thompson says I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! will be a “strain on his heart” as he departs from his girlfriend, Zara McDermott.
The 31-year-old has appeared in a number of reality TV series including Made In Chelsea, where he made his name, but thinks going into the jungle will be different. Talking about Zara, Sam explained that leaving her was one of his hardest challenges.
The pair have been together since 2019 and Sam said: “I think for anyone who’s got loved ones, coming and doing something like this, obviously it is a strain for anyone’s heartstrings. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t going to miss my girlfriend so much. I already do miss her.

“Zara is an absolute stunner. I look at her every day and I’m like, I can’t believe I’m with you. Sometimes I wake up, I turn around and she’s real. I’m like, ‘Oh my god’. So, it is pretty awesome. But the person she is as well, she is just so caring and sweet.
“She doesn’t go out that much, she’s just such a family person. She loves to bake and she loves her cats. It is that side of her that I’m just so overwhelmingly attracted to because I just think she’s the sweetest person in the world.”
Sam previously said he felt like he was a “bad boyfriend” when he decided to do I’m A Celeb while Zara was taking part in BBC’s Strictly. But since Zara’s exit from the competition, Sam is now at ease.
Talking to his colleagues Fleur East and James Barr on his Hits Radio show, he said: “When they asked [me to go into the jungle] I did think, if Zara was still on Strictly would I be a bad boyfriend if I went – but then decided I had to!
“As it turns out she’s tapping out of Strictly just as I’m tapping in. But because I thought she would still be doing Strictly, Pete’s [Wicks] coming with me! I don’t know if I’m going to have a girlfriend at the end of it…'”
When asked about what experiences he hopes to learn in the jungle, he said: “Going in a boy and coming out a man? I absolutely love that idea. That is awesome.
“Is anyone going to let me cook in there? I doubt it. But of course I hope to learn new skills. I’m very happy to be a cog in the machine. Wherever someone doesn’t want to do, I’ll do it. So yeah, I’m very excited to do things that I need to do.
“I’m a people pleaser. I’ve got the backbone of a fish,” he added.
