The actor is also a star of the stage, having appeared in a 2016 production of Twelfth Night in London, as well as 2012’s Beauty and the Beast at the Newark Palace Theatre. John looks almost unrecognisable 11 years on from quitting his role as Dom. Earlier this year, fans were treated to a walk down memory lane as he posed alongside his brother Nick and Hollyoaks legend Will Mellor, who was known as OG Hollyoaks character Jambo Bolton.
The iconic acting trio hung out together as they enjoyed catching up and posed for a photo together. Posting the photo to his Instagram account Will -, who has since starred as Harvey Gaskell in Coronation Street, was excited to see his former co-stars. He wrote: “So good to see these boys tonight! Time goes by but when you get together it means so much!!”
The picture saw John – who left his role as Dom in 2010 after five years on the soap – look drastically different to when Hollyoaks fans last saw him on screen. Nick’s brother has since embarked upon a career behind the camera as a producer and director and has setup his own production company, Wild Street.
John has also taken up a career in education, living in London where he teaches and Goldsmiths University when he isn’t at home with his partner and their three-year-old child they welcomed in 2019. The former soap star has also confessed his desire to work in front of the camera again one day.
He wrote on his Vimeo page: “Fortunate enough to work on the front line on some of high volume serial dramas I hope to be a part of again one day.” John is no doubt supporting his brother as he takes part in the 2023 series of gruelling ITV reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. Before heading to the jungle, Nick said: “I am not quitting Hollyoaks to take part. My bosses have been really supportive of me doing it. Now it is getting near to going into camp, I am so excited.”

He also confessed that actors that are on the show are employed on an annual basis. He said: “It’s all about if the money’s still coming in and we’ve been told that we definitely go on until at least the 30th anniversary so that’s as far as I know. I’m only contracted year to year anyway,” he continued. “So I’ve always taken each year as it comes and like every there’s a few of us in the cast and every time we get a contract we go out and have a little drink and say it’s another year in the sunshine.”
Hollyoaks airs weeknights on E4 at 7pm
