Margot Robbie breaks down in hysterics as husband ‘pinches her bum’ live on red carpet

Margot Robbie was left in hysterics as her husband Tom Ackerley cheekily pinched her bum in the middle of a red carpet.

Barbie star Margot and her hubby were busy attending the 2023 Gotham Film Awards alongside film director Greta Gerwig and her husband. Gerwig scooped a Tribute Award at the event, and was celebrating her achievement with waiting photographers.

But Tom’s wandering hand was clearly getting to Margot as she grinned and shifted, before pushing the hand away. Page Six questioned her: “Is he pinching your bum?” and Margot burst into hysterical giggles. One interviewer pressed: “He is, right? He’s pinching your bum?”

Tom denied pinching his wife’s bottom with a grin – and the pair continued to get cosy at the event with plenty of smiles and laughter. For a couple who tend to keep their relationship private, it was a sweet changed to see them in the limelight together.

Margot and British film producer Tom tied the knot in 2016, after meeting in 2013 on the set of World War II drama Suite Français. 2014 saw them co-found production company LuckyChap Entertainment together, producing films like Birds of Prey and I, Tonya.

Margot has let slip a few details about their life away from the camera, joking on the Graham Norton Show: “My husband is in the Harry Potter movies. I know, I was like, ‘Had you told me sooner we would’ve been married very quickly’.

“He was an extra when he was a little kid – he was one of the Slytherin extras when Draco pushes some kids out of the way to see Buckbeak in the third film. He pushes my husband out of the way.”

She said of their romance: “I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me. We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him.

“And then it happened, and I was like, Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.”

Though Margot didn’t win any awards, she was there to pick one up for her co-star Ryan Gosling, who scooped the Outstanding Supporting Performance gong.

Margot and Greta left fans delighted during their joint speech, with Gerwig admitting to Laura Dern: “On some level, I am surprised every time you text me back.” Turning to Robbie, she added: “And I am also surprised when you text me back.”

“Of course I text you back!” Margot giggled, before paying tribute to the Barbie director. She revealed that Gerwig and her co-writer (and husband) Noah Baumbach “took an object — a doll with no character or story — and cooked up the most ridiculous, outrageous, bananas script in an attempt to conjure back what they loved about the movies.”

Greta then opened up about making the film at the height of the Covid-19 lockdown, explaining: “We figured that if no one was making movies anyway, they might as well not make this one. And we showed it to everyone. And Warner Bros., miraculously, said yes, and Mattel, miraculously, said yes.”

Margot joked: “Essentially. Mostly. With some notes, which Greta and Noah ignored.” While Greta hit back: “We carefully considered the notes. And then we presented our case.”
