Coronation Street’s Bernie Winter has been unlucky in love during her time on the ITV cobbles – but that couldn’t be further from the truth for the actress who plays her.
Over the past few weeks, the doting mum to twins Gemma and Paul has had a tough time in Weatherfield. She was sentenced to three months in prison for her involvement in handling stolen goods with her shady friend Big Garth.
After she broke the news to her family, Gemma and Paul decided to throw a surprise early Christmas party so the family could be together before she gets sent down. With it likely being Paul’s final Christmas, the gang made things extra special with a lavish festive meal complete with all the trimmings.

But as she prepares to swap number five for a cell behind bars, Daily Star has taken a deep dive into the love life of the soap star who portrays her, Jane Hazlegrove. Let’s take a look…
The 55-year-old actress – who has played the role of the beloved matriarch since 2019 – is married in real life to her famous wife Isobel Middleton, 58. Loyal soap fans will recognise her from her roles in Emmerdale and Harry Potter.
The Corrie star tied the knot to her doting wife back in 2015, but the pair try and keep their romance out of the public eye. In 2019, the blonde beauty spoke about her relationship with the actress on Lorraine.
She gushed: “She’s sensational, a really beautiful woman. I am very obsessed.” Jane joked that the pair, who have been dating for more than 28 years, are still together because they have never shared the screen together.
Although they haven’t worked together on the silver screen, the pair have both appeared in soaps, with Isobel playing no fewer than three characters in Emmerdale over the years. The silver fox played the role of Jean Rawson in 2020, a barrister during Simon McManus’ 2018 trial, and a character called Dr Lane in 2014.
EastEnders fans will also remember her for her role as Sadie Banks on the soap, and also provided voices for many of the characters in the Harry Potter. Meanwhile, Jane has appeared in London’s Burning, The Bill, Doctors and Holby City before she landed her role on Coronation Street.
Jane and Isobel first became civil partners in 2010, but initially the Corrie star had no interest in formalising their relationship.
In an interview with Metro, she explained how her views had changed when her partner fell sick. Jane recalled: “The reason we did it was because Isobel hadn’t been well.

“It became very clear that I wasn’t really allowed to know anything about how she was because we weren’t related, even though we’d lived together for 15 years.
“It made me quite cross that I had no say in what happened to her. It all worked out fine, thankfully, but the morning after the civil partnership, I remember us saying over breakfast, ‘No-one can touch us now’.”
Since then, the couple have gone from strength to strength. The couple were last pictured together wearing matching sunglasses on the Coronation Street bus and Manchester Pride.
