Toy Story Bonnie star’s tragic life after film – life-threatening surgery to family loss

Toy Story 3 voice actress Emily Ricks – who shot to fame as four-year-old Bonnie in the animated Pixar flick – has had a tragic life since the film premiered in 2010.

Now 23, the actress has had to cope with life-threatening surgery. Marking her birthday on TikTok, Emily opened up about everything she’s had to deal with since filming the scene where Bonnie inherits Woody, Buzz and the rest of the toys.

She opened ip on TikTok about landing the role when she was only 10. Emily said: “Seeing it always reminds me that growing up is brutal. So much has changed in my life since filming this scene.”

The star reminded fans: “So much life happens between being a kid and becoming an adult. This scene always reminds me to keep my inner child alive. So I guess this is just a reminder to always cherish your childhood and never let that little kid inside of you die.”

Emily has since showed off the deep scar marking her chest, sharing videos of her in a hospital gown and oxygen mask to the platform. She said: “Today marks the fifth anniversary of me being cut open, like, literally. A few years ago, my stomach stopped working and doctors found out I had a blocked artery off of my aorta.

“So they had to correct the blood flow. Some people asked me if I would ever feel comfortable wearing a bikini again – well, I hope this answers that question!” she said alongside images of her wowing in two-pieces and crop tops, scar proudly on display.

While Emily lost her dad when she was 12 years old, her grandma also recently passed away. Emily shared: “Her name was Betty and she was so beautiful. Miss you BB.”

Now the star is busy writing her own songs and recording music – but she’s also continuing to act. She starred in everything from Fresh Off the Boat to Wreck-It Ralph, with her last role coming in 2022 in the short film Expressions of America.

Emily also revealed the trick to voice acting, as she explained the reason Bonnie had a lisp was because she was missing her two front teeth at the time of filming. She told followers: “You might notice that she has a lisp in the movie, and here’s why.

“When I was younger, I had a missing front tooth for two years because I had two impacted teeth trying to come down at the same time, competing. It just left a huge gap. During that time, I auditioned to play Bonnie, with a cute lisp.

“They booked me and I had no front tooth while filming. But it gave me a lisp, and that’s why she had a lisp!”
