BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent red-faced as Jon Kay opens up on ‘sexy’ feature

BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent couldn’t hold back her laughter after Jon Kay asked her about his “sexy” Hull accent.

The popular news programme took a rather different turn on Monday morning (December 11) when the anchors discussed people from Hull having the sexiest accent in the UK. The recent discovery comes after Hollywood actor Timothée Chalamet said he found the Hull accent sexy in a recent interview.

But sharing their take on the matter, Jon, who is originally from Hull, couldn’t wait to showcase his proud heritage which left Sally in fits of laughter. Sally asked: “Where are you from Jon?”

Newsreader Jon replied: “I’m from Hull, can’t you tell from my sexy…my sexy tone. That’s not the reaction I was expecting,” he said. Meanwhile Sally could be seen covering her face as she giggled.

Jon then admitted: “I left when I was one and a half.” But Sally was quick to highlight that Jon didn’t appear to have a Hull accent at all.

Making reference to footage that showed people from Hull, she replied: “You don’t sound…you haven’t got that accent, the man who was talking about the hosepipe and the ban, you don’t sound like him.

Jon said: “I should have stayed there it would have changed my life! I would have had a much more exciting morning.

Jon admitted that he left Hull when he was one-years-old

Later on in the show, comedian Lucy Beaumont- who originates from Kingston upon Hull- appeared on the show via video link to give her take on the accent and why she thinks Hull as a whole is a remarkable place. Taking to X formerly known as Twitter, fans also shared their opinions on the matter.

One fan wrote: “I’m from Hull. The accent is awful. I think Chalamet had drunk a bit too much French wine.”

While another disagreed and wrote: “I’m loving the fact that @RealChalamet is saying that the Hull accent is sexy. I’m proud of our City #Hull.”

However some viewers were clearly uninterested in the news story and shared their displeasure online too. One viewer fumed: “More inane rubbish. Seriously my watch time gets shorter every day – I wish there was a serious news programme to watch in the mornings.”

Another penned: “It is some sort of parallel universe when #BBCBreakfast is ruining a piece about people from Hull having the sexiest accent. Off to make a fern kerl to family still up there to puzzle over it.”

And a third shared: “Jesus, has nothing important happened today? Who gives a s**t about what some actor said about an accent!”
