Dancing on Ice’s Torvil and Dean finally reunite to skate after horror injury forced them apart

Dancing on Ice icons Jayne Torvil and Christopher Dean skated together for the first time in eight months in November.

The pair are set to appear on Emmerdale later this month as part of Belle Dingle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) proposal to Tom King (James Chase). They first skated together in 1975 and went on to win gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics with their iconic Bolero.

Jayne, 66, and Chris, 65, regularly skate together each year but were forced to take a break following an injury. In February, Jayne appeared on Dancing on Ice with her arm in a cast, revealing she ruptured a bicep tendon while rehearsing with Chris.

She underwent surgery to reattach the tendon which kept her away from the ice for nearly one year. Jayne exclusively told Daily Star and other press: “We hadn’t skated together for eight months until today.”

She added: “So this is the first day in a long time we’ve done a routine together. I got a bit teary. I’m usually known as a stone heart but I was just so excited.” Jane and Chris arrive in the Dales to help Belle execute the perfect proposal for Tom.

Opening up about the proposal, 26-year-old Eden revealed that it has a special significance to her. “My mum actually proposed to my dad,” she explained.

“My dad had asked my mum loads of times but she kept saying ‘No, not yet’. And then my dad stopped asking – so my mum had to ask him!” And it appears Chris could already be eyeing up Eden for their 2025 line-up for Dancing on Ice as he said: “Considering she hasn’t skated before, she’s showing a lot of flair.

“I think she only had two hours of practice yesterday.” Helping Eden out with the proposal is Leyla Harding which is fitting as Roxy Shahidi is set to compete in Dancing on Ice in 2024.

A number of Emmerdale stars have completed on the series, including Roxy’s on-screen son Joe-Warren Plant and Matthew Wolfenden, who recently made his final appearance as David Metcalfe. Jayne said: “All Emmerdale actors we’ve had on have all been good. Joe was great. It’s very sad. We had him tipped to make the final.”

Joe-Warren appeared on the show in 2021 but was forced to pull out after testing positive for Covid. Chris joked: “I think Roxy was showing off a little bit earlier! She is a performer. We think she will do well.”
