Hugh Grant claims he’s ‘too old and too fat’ to keep filming romantic movies

Hugh Grant has poked fun at himself saying that he is “too old and too fat” to keep starring in romantic comedies.

The actor stole hearts across the globe when he appeared in Notting Hill, Love Actually, Bridget Jones’s Diary and Four Weddings and a Funeral but is now on the hunt for some other more “interesting roles.” In a new interview on the Drew Barrymore Show, Hugh revealed that he isn’t doing any more romance.

Hugh said: “‘I told you I got a bit better. I got a little less bad after I had children, got married, and got happier. ‘I got too old and fat and ugly to do romantic comedies obviously, so I got off with more interesting things.”

Drew was shocked to hear the Hollywood favourite speaking like this and said that she didn’t see him this way at all. Speaking about his sweeter roles Hugh said: “I love those films. I love the fact that people still like them, but I never felt comfortable really doing them.”

“I don’t know about you, but I prefer more of a mask. I want to be someone else. Then it frees me up and then I quite like acting.” This comes as Hugh is currently starring as an Oompa Loompa in the film Wonka.

In the movie, he plays a grumpy creature that stars alongside Timothée Chalamet’s Wonka. To create the animation Hugh’s face was put onto a motion capture body and when he was asked what the experience was like he said: “Drivel.”

Asked what it was like having cameras stuck in his face he admitted: “It was like a crown of thorns, very uncomfortable.” He added: “I made a big fuss about it.

“I couldn’t have hated the whole thing more.” Hugh said he was unsure throughout whether he was supposed to “act with my body or not, and I never received a satisfactory answer.”

“And frankly, what I did with my body was terrible, and it’s all been replaced with an animator.” Probed on whether the film was worth it, he jokingly said “not really” while the other cast members laughed around him.
