Emmerdale’s Matthew Wolfenden snogs new co-star weeks after Charley Webb split

Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden has been spotted in a heated snog with his new co-star, weeks after splitting from fellow ITV soap star wife Charley Webb.

The David Metcalfe actor, 43, who shares three children with Debbie Dingle actress Charley, has grown close to his theatre co-star Heather Scott-Martin, who is starring in a production of Elf alongside David. In new pictures, the pair were seen walking along the street while holding hands.

At one point, the pair stopped in the middle of a London street and shared a kiss on the lips as Matthew clutched a Tesco carrier bag in one hand and flipped his grey baseball cap backwards. He wore a grey checked jacket over a simple black t-shirt and jeans, lacing up a pair of white trainers against the cold.

Heather, meanwhile, opted for a puffy black duffel coat and a bright red woollen hat, a pair of trousers and black trainers as she walked alongside her new beau. She wore a green jumper underneath and could be seen chatting to pals with David at her side.

Heather is starring in the West End musical production of Elf alongside Matthew, who landed the lead role as Buddy at the Dominion Theatre production. She’s had training from the BRIT School and appeared in everything from Mamma Mia to Annie.

It comes after Matthew and Charley confirmed their split in November 2023, releasing a statement which read: “It is with love and respect that Charley and I have decided to separate. We remain friends and our priority is the love for our children. For their sake we would appreciate privacy at this time.”

The couple originally got engaged back in 2009, but split in 2013 before they could get married. Two years later, they reconciled, and finally tied the knot in 2018. They share three sons – Buster, 13, Bowie, seven, and Ace, four.

A source told The Sun: “Charley and Matthew were in very different places in their lives when they first got together. Three kids later and with new careers in the mix, everything has changed and perhaps they are no longer the unit they once were.”

While another unnamed insider made claims about his new relationship with Heather, explaining: “Heather was wary about getting too involved with Matthew too soon, but is head over heels. She was trying not to be seen with him, standing away from the stage door when he emerged from show rehearsals and shows. But now the cat is out of the bag.”

Matthew’s mum and dad have been helping to take care of his three sons while he’s away in London, with him explaining during an appearance on Loose Women: “Bless my mum and dad – I owe them a holiday after this because they have stepped in and moved into the house to look after the kids.

“So yeah thanks, mum and dad! It’s tough and I’m a really softie when it comes to the kids. I just love being at home with the kids and to be away from them I’m kind of counting down the days until the weekend.”
