TV chef Nigel Slater has caused quite a stir on social media as fans labelled his latest creation “vulva art”.
The 67-year-old food writer headed over to Instagram to showcase his delicious custard tart. The tart which included quinces, is vibrant in colour and has a fluffy puffed pastry casing.
Captioning his post, Nigel wrote: “Quince Custard Tarts. Puff pastry filled with custard and poached quince.

“Not something to hurry, but a pleasurable way to spend a quiet afternoon in the kitchen and worth every minute of your time. The quinces need to be cooked until completely soft then left to cool in their syrup which is then boiled down for the glaze.”
He added: “You could make them with apples should quinces prove evasive. The recipe can be accessed from the linktree in my Instagram bio or on theguardian.com website where you also find a recipe for a goose fat roasted chicken.”
But Nigel’s followers were clearly distracted by the snap he used to showcase his tart as they thought the shape of the desert resembled a woman’s body part. Heading to the comment section with haste, fans shared their thoughts on Nigel’s tart.
One social media user wrote: “I had to take a second look. It’s the first thing that I showed up in my feed when I woke up”
Another said: “As a piece of vulval art, its very beautiful.” A third joked: “That’s gold! The innocence is awesome and the comments are reassuringly in the gutter!”
A fourth fan added: We all love a bit of food porn but flippin’ eck Nigel. While another fan said: “There is only one thing I see here and it’s not a quince tart.”
Nigel isn’t the only TV chef who has caused uproar with his food. Over the years Nigella Lawson has sparked controversy with her cooking and often unintentional sexual innuendos.

Last year, Nigella was mocked for her chicken dinner that looked like “naked women”. The star had fans in fits of laughter when she posted a snap on social media of a dish she called Hoisin Quail.
In the photo, Nigella posted a row of three pieces of meat laid elegantly across a tray. But fans’ minds took them elsewhere as they thought it looked like women with their legs pulled together with a large bust on display.
Commenting on the photo at the time, one fan wrote: “At first glance, I thought this was a woman lying on her back with her knees up.” While someone else added: “Looks like me on a sun lounger.”
