Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper “is not in a good way” after being rushed to hospital, her Smooth FM co-star has revealed.
Derek was rushed to hospital last week after suffering a heart attack and was said to be fighting for his life. The former lobbyist was left critically ill and was hospitalised for over a year after contracting Covid-19 in early 2020.
Kate, who has been caring for Derek at their home, has reportedly cancelled all upcoming TV and radio work in order to be by her husband’s side, even taking a leave of absence from ITV’s Good Morning Britain, which she hosts.

Smooth FM Breakfast presenter Jenni Falconer issued a concerning update to listeners on Tuesday morning (December 19). She said: “On behalf of everyone here at Smooth we’re sending lots of love and Smooth best wishes to our very own Kate Garraway.
“Kate’s husband Derek as we all know has been struggling with long-lasting damage since he suffered from covid and it doesn’t look good at the moment. it doesn’t look like he’s in a good way. So we’re sending lots of love to Kate, Derek and the family… especially at this time of the year.”
It’s claimed that dad-of-two Derek became ill last Monday and that his nearest and dearest have become increasingly worried about his state. “Everyone is praying for a miracle,” a source told The Sun.
“Derek suffered a massive heart attack earlier this week which has left him fighting for his life all over again.” The insider explained that Kate has been by her husband’s bedside 24 hours a day so that Derek can come home for Christmas.
Derek also visited hospital at the start of December. Kate previously said of their Christmas plans: “I’ve managed to get it in before the end of the year. It’s something we were trying to do in the summer but you know there are referrals and time and all of those things. It’s a practical solution because it’s quite challenging for Derek to travel.

“So it’s easier for people to come to us, which means they have to suffer my cooking! We’ll just get as much of the family, the Drapers and the Garraways, together – even if it’s not all on one day. We’re treating it as a four or five day season this year, so I’m going to be doing a lot of cooking. My mum and dad have already sorted the turkey from a farm where they live.”
