ITV GMB fans slam producers over Emmerdale interview decision as they all say same thing

Good Morning Britain viewers have blasted ITV bosses for speaking to a former Emmerdale star about his pig farm before tucking into sausage rolls.

Hosts Ranvir Singh and Ben Shephard returned to the ITV show to host the programme on Friday (December 22) one last time ahead of Christmas. During the show, the pair spoke to former Emmerdale actor Strictly Come Dancing champ Kelvin Fletcher.

Fletcher, 39, was joined by wife Elizabeth as they promoted their farm, which was gearing up for a busy winter season. Chatting to Ben and Ranvir, the pair also were bright-eyed after having been woken up by their four young children and ready to start work on the farm itself.

The pair were on the show to discuss their Christmas special, as it follows the family’s ongoing life on the farm in the run-up to the big day. It also looks as their growing family, after Elizabeth welcomed two new babies into the world in recent months.

But as the interview went on, Kelvin and his wife had a surprise for viewers at home as wife Elizabeth took the ITV team on a tour of the farm, pointing out the various other animals they have including chickens. However, their main source of income is pigs, and as Elizabeth showed some of the animals, Ranvir and Ben could be heard cooing and awwing in the background.

Kelvin and Elizabeth were also asked about their decisions to leave their previous careers behind and set up shop on a farm in Macclesfield in Cheshire. Fletcher, who played farmer Andy Sugden on Emmerdale for two decades, admitted that the pair had initially looked at moving to California, but after the COVID-19 pandemic, their plans changed.

“I think subconsciously, we wanted a new chapter and to find something exciting,” Kelvin recalled. “We didn’t plan on this, but sometimes the best things in life are the goals that are unplanned, really.”

The pair eventually ended their interview by going to their on-site shop, which sells the produce from the farm itself. As they said their farewells to the studio in London, the pair tucked into a juicy sausage roll, which had been made from the meat of the pigs they reared on the farm.

Kelvin, however, was quick to point out that the shop was not open all-year round, but visitors were welcome to cash in on their local products. But viewers watching the show were less than impressed with the producers, and hit out at Kelvin for showing them the pigs before they were killed.

“What a warm, fuzzy cute picture of farming being portrayed! Sadly, this is not the reality of where your meat comes from,” one user slammed as they took to social media.

A second fan of the show agreed, writing: “Yeah, tune in to see all the nice little cuddly animals before they’re butchered.” Whilst a third person quipped: “If the Fletchers see nothing wrong with what they do, why don’t they show the viewers and their kids exactly what happens to their ‘cute’ animals when they go to the slaughterhouse?”

Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
