Horror fans have been left creeped out by a 12-minute short film which takes capital punishment to new extremes – and it’s “ruined their Christmas”.
Based on a short story written by Michael L. Fawcett, that film is The Disappearance of Willie Bingham. It follows the first Australian criminal to undergo a radical new justice programme, which instead of outright executing a prisoner, instead amputates parts of their body one by one.
He starts by going under the knife to have one hand removed, before gradually all his limbs are taken off – along with his namesake genitals, his nose and his ears. At each stage, the family of his victim – a young schoolgirl – are given the choice whether the surgery goes ahead or not.

And at each stage, Willie is taken out to local high schools to scare the kids straight – ensuring they won’t break the law like he did to avoid a similar chilling fate. With some truly haunting CGI and a dark, dystopian setting, the film has left fans freaked out.
One reacted on X – formerly Twitter: “Made the mistake of watching The Disappearance of Willie Bingham last night and it’s ruined my Christmas [sad emoji]. Such a good little dystopian tale though!” Another agreed: “Damn I might have just watched one of the DARKEST films on YouTube. It’s called The Disappearance Of Willie Bingham. Viewer Discretion is advised.”
While somebody else penned: “Just watched The Disappearance of Willie Bingham. A horror film short that expands upon the old adage, Crime Doesn’t Pay. Creepy. Shocking. Thought provoking. A fourth viewer branded the short movie “bleak as hell”.
The film has debuted at various film festivals over the years, but TikTok user ItsHeidiWong has brought a whole new audience to the flick. In a new post, Heidi explained: “Willie Bingham was convicted of [sexually assaulting] and murdering a young girl, so a surgeon comes into his prison cell and explains that his body will be slowly amputated piece by piece.
“You really do see him slowly disappear piece by piece. It’s also interesting that the victim’s family are watching the amputations happen, and the daughters slowly stop showing up, and only the father of the victim remains, telling the surgeon to keep going.”
