And while the majority of 2024 storylines have been confirmed, we thought we would quiz AI. Daily Star has asked one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools Bard AI for its take on the wildest storylines that could happen next year.

From a dead character’s return to a Hollywood star landing a major role, here are the craziest storylines to happen in the 2024 soaps.

Bradley Branning ‘return’

The character, played by Charlie Clements, made his Walford debut back in 2006 and established himself as a fan favourite for his blossoming romance with Stacey Slater. The pair got married but eventually split after he discovered her affair with his dad Max in an explosive Christmas Day episode.

Then in 2010, and after four years on the soap, Bradley was killed off. However, in a major and epic twist, it has been claimed that Bradley could be returning to Walford. But in the form of a “long-lost twin.”

Bard AI told Daily Star: “Bradley Branning could return to EastEnders.” The system added: “His character was killed off in 2010, but soap opera characters have been known to come back from the dead before.”

Bard AI then said: “It is also possible for Bradley Branning to return to EastEnders as a long-lost twin.” The AI program explained how bringing Bradley back as a twin would add “shock value.”

It said: “A long-lost twin returning to a soap opera is a classic trope that is often used to generate shock value and surprise viewers. It would be a big twist to reveal that Bradley had a twin brother who was never mentioned before, and it would be interesting to see how his family and friends would react to his return,” the system added.

‘Killing off’ Ken Barlow

Soap icon Ken Barlow, played by William Roache, has been a staple on Coronation Street for years. He is the longest-serving character on Coronation Street, having been in the soap since 1960.

As viewers will know, Ken left the cobbles back in 2020 when he moved from the famous street after 69 years of living there. It didn’t last long though, as he shortly returned from a retirement home to his residence at No.1.

However, according to Bard AI there are “a few reasons” as to why Ken could get killed off from the soap. “First, he is an older character, and the writers may decide that it is time for him to die of natural causes,” the program said.

“Second, he has been involved in a number of dramatic storylines in recent years, and the writers may feel that they have taken him as far as they can go. Third, his death could be used to spark a number of new storylines, such as the fallout for his family and friends.”

Idris Elba joining EastEnders

While a few famous and instantly recognisable people have ventured into the world of soaps, EastEnders could be in for its biggest star yet. According to AI, a certain blockbuster hunk Idris Elba could be joining the cast.

The system said: “There are many potential stars who could add their unique talents and charisma to the show” And that includes Idris Elba.

It explained: “The acclaimed actor and producer has expressed his desire to appear on EastEnders, and his presence would undoubtedly bring a new level of excitement and intrigue to the show. His powerful screen presence and versatility as an actor would allow him to seamlessly blend into the complex world of Albert Square.”

Since its debut back in 1972, Emmerdale has become famous for its dramatic and thought-provoking storylines. And according to AI, one storyline could see the village being rocked by a virus outbreak.

The system explained: “Soap operas are known for their ability to tackle social and political issues. And a virus outbreak would be a timely and relevant topic to explore.”

The system then listed some reasons as to why that storyline “would be a good fit” for Emmerdale. It said: “Emmerdale is set in a small village, which would make it a microcosm of society and provide a realistic setting for a virus outbreak to spread.”

Another reason is: “Emmerdale has a history of tackling difficult and controversial issues. And a virus outbreak would be a challenging but rewarding storyline to take on.”
