Cher has taken a leaf out of Jamie Spears’ book and filed for a conservatorship over her son Elijah Blue Allman.
She claims he struggles with substance abuse and is “substantially unable to manage his financial resources”. Documents allege he is struggling with “severe mental health and substance abuse issues”, with Cher of the opinion that “any money [he] receives will be immediately spent on drugs […] putting his life at risk”.
Cher shares Elijah 47, with her late ex-husband Gregg Allman. She also shares son Chaz Bono, 54, with Allman.

The documents state that Cher “worked tirelessly” to get her son the “help he needs”, and further claim that his wife Marieangela King shouldn’t act as conservator, alleging she is “not supportive of Elijah’s recover” and “actively works to keep Elijah from getting clean and sober or receiving mental health treatment that he desperately needs.”
The pair filed for divorce in 2021, but in December 2022 King claimed they were working towards a reconciliation. In 2023, they were officially “estranged”, and Marieangela alleged Cher was “interfering” with her son’s “health management as well as his location and accessibility” during the period they were attempting to “work on their marriage”.
King claimed she wasn’t “allowed to see or speak to [Allman] who is currently in lockdown at a treatment facility that is undisclosed to me.” However, during an interview with People magazine, Cher claimed: “That rumour is not true.”
In new conservatorship documents, Cher claims two of Elijah’s siblings nominated her to act as conservator, though it is not clear which of Gregg Allman’s five children she is referring to.
It comes after Cher admitted one of her biggest ever regrets was losing millions of dollars from her hit single Believe. She claimed she was too “stupid” to ask for a writing credit for the lyrics, explaining: “You can’t even imagine – about 30 people wrote on it. And I wrote it and was so stupid – I didn’t even ask to get a writer’s credit!
“I wrote, ‘I’ve had time to think it through, and maybe I’m too good for you’.” She said the line showed “a chick can be upset for one verse but not two, not on one of my songs.”

Cher revealed: “The verse was so bad. I couldn’t make it good. I got into a big fight with Mark [Taylor, producer], and Mark kept saying, ‘You’ve got to sing it better.’ And finally, I went, ‘If you want it sung better, get somebody else’, and I walked out.”
Later, the track was altered using a pitch machine – and she couldn’t believe how “fabulous” it sounded. She told Radio 2 host Vernon Kay: “My favourite thing was that you didn’t know it was my voice at the beginning.”
