BBC EastEnders’ Jack star kisses rarely seen wife after confirming survival on soap

EastEnders star Scott Maslen has shared a sweet snap of his rarely seen wife after his character survived the BBC soap’s dramatic Christmas storyline.

Scott’s Jack Branning was widely rumoured to fall foul of Albert Square’s The Six – Suki Panesar, Kathy Beale, Linda Carter, Denise Fox, Stacey Slater and Sharon Watts – after the soap’s bosses revealed earlier this year that a major male character would meet their grizzly end on Christmas Day.

Thankfully for Jack, who first appeared in Walford in 2007, it was Keanu Taylor who was brutally murdered, whilst the Mitchell family is set to suffer a “sad loss” themselves in the coming weeks. Now, Scott has capped off a fine week by celebrating with his musician spouse, Estelle Rubio.

The 52-year old took to his Instagram account to upload a pic of Estelle sat on his knee leaning in for a kiss as the pair cosied up in front of their Christmas tree.

In a caption shared to Scott’s 123,000 followers, the couple wrote: “Happy Kissmass!! Remember you don’t need #mistletoe to kiss + hug all the special people I hope you’re with today too!” In a second shot, meanwhile, Scott and Estelle were joined by their 22-year old son Zak, who is almost the double of his famous dad.

Commenting on their photos, one fan gushed: “Merry Christmas you beauts. Hope you’re all well. Sending lots of love xxxx.” Another commented: “Merry Christmas to you and beautiful family.” A third added: “Beautiful family. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.” And a fourth wrote: “Merry Christmas and a very Happy New year Scott and all your family. Xxxx.”

Jack is set to be rocked in the New Year, meanwhile, by the return of his daughter Penny – last seen in 2008 as she departed for France with her mum – Jack’s ex – Selina. Penny was left paralysed from the waist down in a deliberate attack by one of her dad’s criminal associates from his murky past in the police force.

Hailing the return of Penny – who will be played by London Academy of Music and Drama graduate Kitty Castledine, the show’s executive producer, Chris Clenshaw said: “It’s been a long time since Penny Branning was in Walford, and she’s a very different person from the one our viewers might remember. Kitty is a terrific addition to the show, and we’re looking forward to seeing Penny back in Albert Square.”

And Penny told the Mirror: “I didn’t expect to start my EastEnders journey so soon out of drama school – I can’t actually believe it! My whole family are EastEnders fans, and I remember sitting on my Nanny Kay’s lap to tune in, and now they get to watch me in Albert Square.

“The inclusion of disabled talent on screen is so important to me as a wheelchair user, so I’m thrilled to be playing a character as feisty and cool as Penny. She’s thrown into the middle of the drama straight away, and I can’t wait to see what she gets up to.”

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
